Dr. Fred Eichelman: Book Review, Your Heroes, A Granddaughter’s Love

Grandparents Are The Best Blessing Every Kid Can Have

Julie Rogers Pomilia, granddaughter of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, gives us an exciting book on the lives of two of America’s most iconic Western Stars.Your Heroes, A Granddaughter’s Love takes us into the hearts and home of a duo we treasured on the big screen and TV. Roy and Dale come alive as two very real people we would all have loved to have known personally. This book filled with pictures will make you feel like you have spent real tine with them..

The author goes into the background of these two special people from their very beginning to their peak of stardom. And of course you get to know the world’s smartest horse, Trigger, as well as other four legged friends. For Julie, her hero worship of this dynamic duo was not related to their fame as entertainers but more to her days with them on the ranch and the type of adventures we all treasure in memories of our grandparents.

Other stars are also covered who were involved in this famous couple’s lives, including their involvement with their children and grandchildren. Their love of family was a model for all, and we are reminded well of Roy’s visits to children’s hospital wards with Trigger, possible the beginning of Equine Therapy.

Another important feature in the lives of Roy and Dale was their dedication to Christian values. Dale reminded her many kids and grand kids that they needed to behave in public as they could be “the only Bible others may see.” The couple were regular participants in Hollywood Bible Studies sponsored by Jane Russell and Rhonda Fleming.

This is a book more than about old Hollywood; it is a story about two people who made a difference in not just the lives of their family but of all of us who followed them as fans.

Thank you, author Julie, for making your grandparents seem like people we knew as well as our neighbors.
