Dale Parker: Why Many Republican Leaders May Need a “Bud Lite Moment” Regarding 2A

Dale Parker

As a gun owner I have watched with interest as the events in Washington D. C. continue to unfold surrounding the illegal and unconstitutional rule banning pistol braces. This rule was dictated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE).

Pistol braces were designed as aids for crippled veterans but they also provide added security and safety for many elderly who suffer from arthritis or other debilitating diseases for whom the braces are a necessary tool.  The braces also make the pistol more accurate.

Braces do not magically make the pistol into a machine gun. They do not make the pistol more concealable.  They do not make the pistol more of a threat to the general public in any way.

There was enough of an outcry from owners of pistol braces and some other gun owners to prompt a response from Congress.  Hearings were held and the head of the BATFE was brought before a committee to answer questions concerning the ruling. In addition to lying under oath to the committee he confirmed that this action by BATFE was a power grab and a move to establish BATFE as the final word on ANY regulation concerning gun ownership across America.

If this ruling is allowed to stand then BATFE will have effectively shredded our rights enshrined in the 2nd Amendment and rendered Congress impotent and useless. We will see more rule by fiat and increased weaponization of this and other rogue agencies. In addition to lying under oath to the committee he confirmed that this action by BATFE was a power grab and a move to establish BATFE as the final word on regulations concerning gun ownership across America.

If this ruling is allowed to stand then BATFE will have effectively shredded our rights enshrined in the 2nd Amendment and rendered Congress impotent and useless by bypassing the legislative process.   We will see more rule by fiat and increased weaponization of this and other rogue agencies.

An effort by Rep. Andrew Clyde to attach an amendment to the Debt Ceiling Bill was denied by both House Speaker McCarthy and Joe Biden working in unison to undermine our rights as citizens and gun owners. The amendment would have blocked the ruling but it was stripped in closed rule and not one member of Congress was allowed to bring the matter to the floor or to discuss it.

Now we are seeing theater in Congress as much fanfare is given to the patronizing prevarication of the House GOP passing a resolution to “undo the pistol brace regulation”. The acts by McCarthy and Biden were deliberate and calculated.  They knew that any subsequent actions would be defeated in a Senate controlled by Democrats.  The ONLY way the BATFE ruling could have been stopped was to attach it to the Debt Ceiling Bill. It was the only leverage that we had to force Clyde’s amendment through both houses of Congress and the President in order to stop this rogue agency from making millions of Americans into felons.

Our Founding Fathers openly recognized our freedoms and established our laws under the benevolence and providence of Almighty God. They recognized the importance and necessity of an armed populace in dealing with tyrants and criminals.  The freedom of the ordinary citizen to keep and bear any and all arms was not to be constrained even at the edges. The words “Shall not be infringed” in the 2nd Amendment meant just that.

McCarthy and other Washington elites who wish to maintain their power and privilege will shred our Constitution to accomplish that end. The events following Jan 6 have proven this to be a fact. They have no problem forcing their will and ideology on the rest of us.

Budweiser recently had similar thoughts.  I submit that patriots and gun owners across America had better take a page from the Beer Drinker’s Book and apply it. We need to hold McCarthy and the Republicans who have sided with him accountable and show them another American “Bud Lite Moment”.

Dale Parker grew up mostly in western Colorado where his father farmed and worked in construction and timber. Dale started working with his father at an early age. As a young man he was employed by a global equipment manufacturing company as a service representative and engineering technician. When an opportunity provided employment on the North Slope of Alaska he moved to Fairbanks with his family. He worked in Alaska for a number of years and then moved back with his family to Colorado where they lived on a small farm and raised Black Angus seed stock. He worked for a drilling company moving large oil and geothermal rigs across several western states and operated a machine shop on the side. After participating in the Exxon-Valdez and UMPTRA cleanups he worked as a law enforcement officer and a Colorado State Water Commissioner. He loves to spend time with his wife of over 40 years and their grandchildren. Fellowship, fishing, hunting, and teaching the grandchildren to shoot fills in spare time (Dale shot “across the course” back when he could still see the iron sights on his service rifle and was one match short of his high master qualification when he stopped competing).
