Losing More Than We Gain

We all have priorities; caring for our families, working hard, serving others, living the good life.  For most of us, caring about the kind of future we leave our children is important.  Money may be part of that, but it’s not usually the biggest part.  That’s more about being concerned we give them the best education we can, teach them the values they’ll need to live decent and productive lives, and leave them a country filled with opportunity for their future.

But if you are one of the 535 Members of Congress, you’re probably more interested in getting re-elected than you are making America more prosperous for future generations.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m sure there are many who actually believe the oath they took when they were first sworn into office. But the evidence coming from Washington now days shows a great many didn’t or have forgotten what they swore to:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion

“Support and defend The Constitution of the United States”. This includes the right to disagree with those in power, to assemble, to move freely, to practice the religion of our choice, and to bear arms. These are all freedoms that, for well over two hundreds years, have provided us with the tools to become the most dynamic, exceptional, and prosperous nation in the history of the world.  It didn’t happen by accident, but because enough of our politicians at all levels held our Constitution in high enough regard to abide by it and defend it.

That’s changing. Our Constitutional rights are increasingly threatened by politicians who have forgotten their sworn oath or didn’t mean it when they took it.

They’ve spent trillions brainwashing students about the evils of capitalism, the inequities of freedom, the devastation of white privilege. And not just students, but everyone who watches almost any Hollywood movie or TV series, tunes into the news, or reads a novel.

Sometimes it’s very much in your face. Other times it’s more subtle. But the message is nearly always that government can do most things better than you. Companies are greedy. Everyone who isn’t white, or rich, or conservative, or Christian is victimized by those who are.

The narrative popular with elites in our society today is that they can make better decisions about how you should live than you. They know better what you should eat, what you should drive, where you should live, how your children should be educated, and who should provide your health care. They’ve proposed a raft of big government programs to make you go along. The Green New Deal, Obamacare, and huge new taxes to pay for it all.

This is the party of Joe Biden. Biden has moved so far left, he’s ended up pretty much where Bernie Sanders started.  What that says about Biden is that he doesn’t really stand for anything. Anything that is other than whatever it takes to get elected.

Joe Biden’s biggest priorities these days? He’s says in his first day in office, he’ll prioritize LGBTQAI+ rights. Joe says he’ll open the borders to far more immigrants, and put illegal immigrants already here on the path to citizenship.

This despite the 39 million Americans who have signed up for unemployment assistance in the last 8 weeks. For Joe and progressives, it’s not really about “caring” for illegals.  It’s about the likelihood, those illegals, once citizens, will vote for Democrats. That’s also why in New York and California, Democrat leaders are expanding social services and welfare payments to illegal immigrants.

Joe’s also appointed the author of the Green New Deal, socialist Alexandria OcasioCortez, to co-chair his task force on climate. He’s promising to look at proposals to pack the Supreme Court with progressives. He wants to expand Obamacare to include a public “option;” code for phasing out private health care.

It’s not just Joe. In fact, he may be little more than Charlie McCarthy, the dummy to famed ventriloquist Edgar Bergen. But the ones who really pull the strings and speak the words are hiding in the shadows, the lead string puller being Nancy Pelosi.

Democrats in Congress and state houses across America have lost their way.  Despite the oath they took, they all support dispensing to one degree or another with fundamental rights guaranteed by our Constitution in favor of a much bigger, more intrusive, government and the confiscatory taxes required to pay for it.

It’s 100% against the oaths they swore to keep when they were elected. Maybe they’re actually arrogant enough to believe imposing their will is the best way to guarantee a better future. Maybe that’s just how they rationalize their hunger for power.  Or maybe a better future for our kids isn’t really something they care about at all. Whatever the case, if they win, we’ll have given up far more than we receive from any promises they may care to keep.
