Even During a Pandemic, Leftists Trying to Control People Via Their Guns
The Covid-19 pandemic has dominated the news to the near exclusion of the many other significant issues that should attract our attention at least to a similar extent. The chart provided hereoffers some much needed perspective on issues other than the virus (the actual point of the chart’s message). One that caught my eye was the number of deaths from suicide and homicide.
While the chart does not break down the numbers regarding how people died in these two categories, other sites can fill in the blanks with regard to the method of death.
Worldwide, homicide deaths are said to be approximately 405,500 per year. Suicides just under 794,000 in the same time frame. The total between them comes to well over 1.1 million per year. Of those, according to World Population Review(WPR) the number of deaths caused by guns globally was in the area of 250,000 in 2016. Since the page does not break down the homicide/suicide categories separately the site offers some insight through some additional notations provided.
We do know that the United States had approximately 37,200 gun deaths (per WPR). The following quote is incredibly important when viewing gun violence as it is used as a weapon to defeat the 2ndAmendment here at home:
More than two-thirds of gun deaths in the US are suicides.
So, the total firearm-related fatalities at the hand of someone other than the victim stands at approximately 12,400 per year (likely includes accidental deaths, as well).
According to the CDC, there were 2,744,248 total deaths in the United States. So, firearm-related deaths at the hand of another represent only 0.45% of all deaths experienced in America in 2016. In fact, gun-deaths do not even rank in the top ten for our country.
Now, please understand that in my view one gun-related death is one too many and unless justified by self defense situations (included in totals shown) cannot be justified by any means. However, when viewed in the perspective of how the media and the Democrats/socialists/leftists nearly continually beat everyone over the head with how much of a problem it is you would think that everywhere in America there is a sniper on the roof and a gun-toting murderer lurking around every corner. They have taken their demands for “gun control” (a euphemism for “people control”) to extremes.
This is especially irksome when what appears to be the goal, and that is to eliminate all ownership of firearms by private citizens – i.e. elimination of the 2ndAmendment of the U.S. Constitution. Given the experience we have just endured with the tyranny imposed during the Covid-19 outbreak, it is not difficult to believe that it would have been far worse and even more tyrannical if the many left-wing ideology-types were to be free to impose their will without concern for an eventual armed uprising among the people.
Go ahead, think to yourself that “it just can’t happen in America.” That sort of thinking was probably common among Venezuelan citizens in the years when they had a booming economy and relatively free society before Chavez and Maduro took over with false promises and almost immediate confiscation of the people’s means to resist – their firearms. The same thing happened in Germany under Hitler, too. In fact, it is nearly a universal step in the imposition of tyranny in every country that has experienced that sort of government control efforts.
Nearly all of the current Democrat candidate for Congress or other national office are committed to a “gun-control agenda.” It is nearly a universal litmus test to get Democrat donors to contribute to one’s campaign.
Even those who produce campaign ads featuring the candidate shooting at a gun-control bill cannot be counted on to oppose unconstitutional measures such as “red flag laws” that fly in the face of constitutional due process allowing guns to be summarily confiscated based on ex parte proceedings with as little as one witness statement supporting the belief that a person is a danger to others or themself.
For all of less than ½ of 1% of all the deaths experienced in a country of 340,000,000 people there is an outsized amount of attention being focused on gun deaths. Far more people are killed by traffic accidents. Meanwhile virtually nothing is being done in the four or five major cities with the worst record of gun violence – all of which are under Democrat-controlled administrations.
Could it be that the agenda really isn’t about gun control, but rather people control? Anyone that takes the time to think about all that is happening around us should recognize the disproportionate attention toward something that is, in fact, a diminishing problem in America outside of those big-city, left-wing controlled centers of crime. It is time for people to think about the choices…tyranny or freedom. The latter requires that the constitutional protection provided to us are preserved and those who would deny those protections should not be given a foot in the door to any office in our government. November 3, 2020, has much significance for our future freedoms. Vote wisely!
