The Self-Serving Politics and Posturing of Rep. Elijah Cummings

Congressman Elijah Cummings from Baltimore is Chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee. He has spent most of his last 3 years in Congress on just two subjects. First, the persecution and impeachment of President Trump, and second, the persecution and slander of anyone who works with or for President Trump.

And if you happen to work for one of those agencies charged with enforcing immigration law; watch out, Congressman Cummings has made it clear he’s coming for you. He’s not alone. He enjoys the full backing of Nancy Pelosi and all the other far-left Democrats in the House including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Squad.”

Congressman Cummings shouted down acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan at a recent committee hearing on the subject of migrant conditions during the crisis on our southern border.

The first problem with Cummings’ bullying is that the living conditions he’s complaining about are mostly due to him.  It’s he and his fellow Democrats in Congress who have repeatedly refused to supply the funds needed to provide adequate facilities on our southern border. But it’s not just about the money.

It’s also about the fact that Democrats would rather posture on the issue of humanitarian abuse than actually address the immigration crisis.  The reason we will detain a record 1 million migrants this year is because our immigration system is an absolute disaster. The migrants know it, and they’re taking advantage.

Democrats also know the system is a disaster, they’re also taking advantage. They’re using it as a talking point to convince Americans generally and Hispanics particularly that Trump is a white nationalist who wants to hurt them.

And that’s the real problem with Congressman Cummings. He knows Trump is not a racist. He knows that thanks to Trump’s policies more blacks, Hispanics, and women have jobs than at any time in American history.  And he knows that in three years, Trump has done more to lift blacks and Hispanics out of poverty than Barack Obama did in 8, or that Cummings himself has done in 22, or, for that matter, than Democrat policies have done in 60 years.

And because Congressman Cummings knows that, he knows blacks won’t believe him when he says Trump’s policies are hurting them.

So, instead, he and his fellow Democrats are hell-bent on convincing blacks that Trump is a racist. But at the same time they’re throwing blacks under the bus, they are also promising illegal immigrants free everything.

How could Democrats do that when they know illegal immigration hurts the very blacks and Hispanics they’ve been promising to help for the past 6 decades? They can do it because when they win the presidential election, and hand amnesty out to all those 20 million immigrants who by then will be here illegally, they’ll never have to worry about losing another election.

Congressman Cummings doesn’t really care about the people of his Baltimore district — which is indeed one of the poorest, most violent, least educated districts in the country.

If he did, he wouldn’t be trying to brutalize the Secretary of Homeland Security about issues on the Mexican border, he’d be in his own district asking tough questions of the Mayor and City Council; the School Board; and the Secretary of HUD.  He’d be partnering with The Chamber of Commerce to bring more businesses and jobs. And he’d be working with DOJ, the FBI, and local law enforcement to fight gangs, drug traffickers, and violent criminals. But when it comes to his own district, it’s crickets!

Cummings’ is a brand of corrupt politics that uses the future of black Americans as bait.  And black voters are seeing it.  How else to explain why blacks in Cummings’ district are now coming forward to say Trump was right — their neighborhoods really are a mess and leftist politicians like Cummings haven’t matched their promises with results or even real effort.  How else to explain why twice as many blacks choose Trump in public polls than supported past Republican nominees, McCain or Romney?

Black Americans in Baltimore know what Trump meant when he said their communities are rat-infested.  And they know it had nothing to do with Trump being a racist. They live there.  They know there are parts of Baltimore with more rats than people.  And many are starting to realize that when they elect Democrats things get worse. They also see that while things are getting worse for them, they’re getting a whole lot better for the Democrats they elect. Congressman Cummings has amassed over $1.1 million in assets since taking office. Baltimore is well known for its corrupt politicians, and for its suffering people.

Congressman Cummings has failed those who entrusted him with their votes, and he’s failed the country he swore an oath to serve. He’s a disgrace. It’s time voters rose up and ousted him – and those like him – who promise much at election time but serve only themselves the rest of the time.
