Donald Trump Blamed for Illegal Immigrant Family Separation

Over the past couple of weeks the left has latched onto a new narrative from which to attack President Trump (imagine that!). It is the issue of separating families at the border. The usual suspects are all up in arms over this: the media and the Hollywood crowd. A picture surfaced that showed children in cages that them howling in protest at Trump. How inhumane could this man be? There was just one itsy bitsy tennie weenie problem with it: The picture was from 2014!
Donald Trump was not President then. Let me think…who was in the Oval Office then? President Bush? No that’s not it. President Romney? No, he lost in 2012.
That’s right – it was Barack Obama. And my memory is pretty good. I don’t recall there being an outrage over it back then from the sanctimonious left..
So here are some of the reactions from clueless leftists. And as you read these, keep in mind that these people support abortion on demand:
Alyssa Milano:
YOU’RE INVITED!
Families Belong Together March Los Angeles
WHERE:MACARTHUR PARK (IN LOS ANGELES)
WHEN:THURSDAY, JUNE 14, 5:00 PM
WHAT:
JOIN US TO DEMAND AN END TO FAMILY SEPARATION AND DETENTION
I wonder if you were supposed to bring your own cake to leave out in the rain with all the sweet green icing running down?
Barbara Streisand: “Trump has a monstrous policy of holding children hostage to build his unfeasible wall that he promised Mexico was going to pay for. His political negotiation tactic is to literally torture children, who are trying to escape violence and abuse already.”
Rob Reiner: “Those who back this sick immoral criminal are not only aiding and abetting this inhumanity, but are are allowing fascism to take root in America. Ripping children away from their parents is fascism pure and simple.”
Kathy Griffin: “This President, his family (except for Tiffany and Barron) and his administration, do not deserve an ounce of grace, decorum, respect, or kindness. They are horrible people who are operating a criminal enterprise. So stop with the lectures about “unhelpful language” – F*** TRUMP”
Ron Perlman: “”A lot of muthaf*** out there are on me for using a picture that is not representative of the current border situation. As if there is no border ugliness. For those so desperate to be right about a picture that they ignore the savagery that is real…F*** YOU FOR ALL TIME!!!”
Ken Olin: “And anyone who believes Trump and his demonization of immigrants is no different than those who believed Hitler’s demonization of Jews. Period.”
Henry Winkler (Oh NO, not the FONZ!!!): “ON this FATHER’S DAY i just cant stop thinking about the children we have locked up , who cant get a hug , who wonder where is my mom , my dad AND ALL IN THE NAME OF THE BIBLE ..GOD bless us all”
They aren’t being locked up! Which mean the Fonz is wrrrrrr…, he’s wrrrrrrr…oh forget it.
Rob Delany: “When I think of children being forcibly separated from their parents & sent to a prison camps, I think Susan Collins & Ben Sasse!”
Judd Apatow: “We all have always heard about concentration camps and thought about what we would have done if we were alive at that time. Well we are now.”
Prison camps?? Concentrations camps??? I’m sorry but these people have just gone totally bye bye. The eyes are open but there’s no light on upstairs. I might add that the only time we put people in
“camps” was during WW2 and it was done by a DEMOCRAT named Franklin Roosevelt.
Kumail Nanjiani: “No good person has ever advocated for the senseless separation of kids from their parents.”
Families Belong Together: “It is unconscionable that the US government is actively tearing apart immigrant families. They are victims of violence, hunger, and poverty and our government’s actions re-violate them, causing untold damage. We oppose the inhumane policies of the Trump Administration, Border Patrol, ICE, and other federal immigration agencies. We are calling for immediate reforms and an end to this barbarism.”
You know what’s barbaric? Tearing unborn children out of the womb and dismembering them for sale. That’s barbarism and savagery on scale with the Nazi mentality. And yes that is harsh to say but unfortunately it is true. I watched the Planned Parenthood videos. They were not “selectively” edited. And it’s time we stop sugar-coating it with words like pro-choice. It’s not a choice for the unborn child.
And if these people really did care about these immigrant children, then drive down there and take them in! You all have the money and the means to do that. Lead by example instead of just running your mouth. But of course they won’t do that. They live in their gated houses/communities while preaching to the rest of us. This is all about politics. They will use children as props anytime they think it suits their purposes. I am sick of it–and so are an increasing number of American voters.
The Bushes attacked Trump as well…led by Laura Bush who recently said,“I live in a border state. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart…”
But as Sarah Sanders pointed out, “This law was actually signed into effect in 2008 under her husband’s leadership, not under this administration.” Sanders was referring to the Trafficking Victims Prevention Reauthorization Act–signed by Laura Bush’s husband in 2008!
Oops!
And not missing a beat, Jeb!™ had to weigh in on it too:
“Children shouldn’t be used as a negotiating tool. @realDonaldTrump should end this heartless policy and Congress should get an immigration deal done that provides for asylum reform, border security and a path to citizenship for Dreamers.”
I would just like to say thank you to Donald Trump for keeping this man from being President.
The best response to the the Bushes attack on Trump is a comment I read that sums it up pretty well: “The hypocrisy of the Bushes is getting increasingly nauseating.” AMEN!
Rich Lowry had a great piece almost a month ago about what is happening with migrant children. Of course you won’t hear any of this from the left.
“The Trump administration isn’t changing the rules that pertain to separating an adult from the child. Those remain the same. Separation happens only if officials find that the adult is falsely claiming to be the child’s parent, or is a threat to the child, or is put into criminal proceedings.
It’s the last that is operative here. The past practice had been to give a free pass to an adult who is part of a family unit. The new Trump policy is to prosecute all adults. The idea is to send a signal that we are serious about our laws and to create a deterrent against re-entry. (Illegal entry is a misdemeanor, illegal re-entry a felony.)
When a migrant is prosecuted for illegal entry, he or she is taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals. In no circumstance anywhere in the U.S. do the marshals care for the children of people they take into custody. The child is taken into the custody of HHS, who cares for them at temporary shelters.”
I might add that illegally crossing into the country is criminal activity. That’s what Trump is cracking down on. Yes, I feel for those children. But why is it Trump’s fault (or any President’s fault) that children are sadly victims of their own parents breaking the law?
So what about the criminal proceedings? Lowry continues:
The criminal proceedings are exceptionally short, assuming there is no aggravating factor such as a prior illegal entity or another crime. The migrants generally plead guilty, and they are then sentenced to time served, typically all in the same day, although practices vary along the border. After this, they are returned to the custody of ICE.
If the adult then wants to go home, in keeping with the expedited order of removal that is issued as a matter of course, it’s relatively simple. The adult should be reunited quickly with his or her child, and the family returned home as a unit. In this scenario, there’s only a very brief separation.
Where it becomes much more of an issue is if the adult files an asylum claim. In that scenario, the adults are almost certainly going to be detained longer than the government is allowed to hold their children.
That’s because of something called the Flores Consent Decree from 1997 (author’s note: Bill Clinton was President then, not Trump!). It says that unaccompanied children can be held only 20 days. A ruling by the Ninth Circuit extended this 20-day limit to children who come as part of family units. So even if we want to hold a family unit together, we are forbidden from doing so.
Sort of puts a whole new light on all this doesn’t it?
Lowry then talks about it in moral terms:
There is obviously a moral cost to separating a parent from a child and almost everyone would prefer not to do it. But, under current policy and with the current resources, the only practical alternative is letting family units who show up at the border live in the country for the duration. Not only does this make a mockery of our laws, it creates an incentive for people to keep bringing children with them.
Needless to say, children should not be making this journey that is fraught with peril. But there is now a premium on bringing children because of how we have handled these cases. They are considered chits.
Last thought: isn’t it incredible that the left is now using the family unit and the Biblical Christianity to defend their position on this issue when they have tried to destroy both over the last generation? They are being exposed as total frauds. Trump is winning this issue as evidenced by the unhinged and deranged reaction of the left (and many in his own party). He needs to keep up the pressure. These folks are about to break.
Update: Ted Cruz has initiated a bill that would keep families together while the cases are being reviewed (i.e. calling the Democrat’s bluff):
“While these cases are pending, families should stay together. Children belong with their mothers and fathers. Once their cases have been adjudicated — under my legislation, in no longer than 14 days — those who meet the legal standard should be granted asylum and those who don’t should be immediately returned to their home country.”
Over to you Chuck ol’ boy:
“Let’s hope we never get to that (Cruz’ bill). Let’s hope the president does the right thing and solves the problem, which he can do,” Schumer said. “That’s the simple, easiest and most likely way this will happen. How many times has immigration legislation passed in this Congress. How many times? Zero. It’s an excuse from our Republican colleagues who feel the heat, don’t want to attack the president, even though they know, they know legislation will take a very long time and is unlikely to happen, and the flick of a president’s pen could solve this tomorrow,” Schumer said. “Makes no sense, what they’re saying.”
It hasn’t passed because your party keeps obstructing!! And let me get this clear in my mind. The man who countless leftists have compared to Hitler, Nazi’s and dictatorships in general, this is the man you now want to solve the immigration issue by himself with a “flick of a pen”!
You cannot make this level of hypocrisy up if you tried. At any rate, Cruz has called their bluff and Schumer has folded. The Democrats have been exposed (again) for not caring about children if if doesn’t benefit them politically. Well done, Mr. Cruz, whether the bill passes or not. Mission accomplished.
