During a campaign stop in LaPorte Indiana on Sunday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was interrupted while laying out his tax plan by a young boy who yelled “You suck!”
“Apparently, there’s a young boy who’s had some problems,” Cruz said. The young child who appeared to be 10-12 years old, interrupted the Texas Senator yelling something inaudible before shouting louder, “You suck!”
“Thank you, son,” Cruz replied. “I appreciate you sharing your views. You know, hopefully one of the things somebody has told you is that children should actually speak with respect.”
“In my household, when a child behaved that way, they would get a spanking,” Cruz said to loud applause before directing a zinger to his rival, GOP front-runner Donald Trump. “Imagine what a different world it would be if someone told Donald Trump that years ago.”
The exchange comes as Cruz and Trump are stumping for every last vote as voters head to the polls on Tuesday. Trump leads Cruz by roughly 9 percentage points, 42%-32.7%, in the RealClearPolitics average of recent Indiana polls. It’s consider do-or-die for Cruz, as a win for Trump could help solidify his claim to the GOP nomination, while dealing the Senator a formidable blow.
