Summer Vacation Idea: “Glamping” at Riley’s Farm in Oak Glen, CA

Riley’s Farm is one of the most beautiful, unique, and patriotic places in all of California. It features pre-Revolutionary reenactments (many thousands of students annually attend Riley’s camp and educational series), acres and acres of fruit orchards, and interactive theatrical productions each season. The PBS series “Courage, New Hampshire” was filmed on the farm and for the past two years, Morgan Brittany, Gina Loudon and I have helped stomp grapes for Riley’s private stock wine. (Our usual PolitiChicks readers probably know all about Riley’s; if not, read more HERE, HERE, and HERE.)
Well this time owners James Patrick and Mary Riley have completely outdone themselves. After multiple complaints (mostly by my family and me) that the farm needed a Bed and Breakfast, they took that notion and threw it far, far over the top.
This summer, Riley’s Farm is featuring ‘Glamping”, a sort of a hybrid between glamour and camping. Riley’s describes it this way:
Blue skies, fresh air, and more than 760 acres of gorgeous land await you in scenic Oak Glen for your romantic summer couples getaway! Sip champagne by candlelight, take a stroll hand-in-hand through the apple and pear orchards, pick fresh berries in season, dine on sumptuous farm-fresh meals, and relax in your own private fully furnished marquee tent in Colonial Chesterfield this summer. You can even choose to don fine 18th century attire for a unique, immersive historical experience.
Book your overnight “glamping” experience in a charming 20×20 colonial marquee tent fully furnished with a comfy four poster queen bed, luxurious linens, private en suite dining area, and romantic candlelight.

And if you’re not sure how to dress for a pre-Revolutionary Glamping trip, no problem! Riley’s provides you with “head-to-toe authentic 18th century attire for you and your significant other.” (Of course you can also wear your own boring clothes if you choose–but not sure why you would.)
As for activities, no, you won’t find a giant-screened television in your tent but by the end of a day exploring Riley’s 760 acre farm, you won’t need it. You can hike through the apple and pear orchards, pick berries, throw tomahawks, work on your archery skills and much more.
