How Democrat-Run Cities Face “Death by a thousand paper BALLOT cuts”

PolitiChicks.comRecently, the Washington Post ran a story about how the racial and economic disparity of Baltimore could be clearly seen with the use of a map showing the lines of segregation in the city. The article included the following description of the colorful map: “The two maps below offer a striking look at the two Baltimore’s, one affluent and predominately white, the other impoverished and largely black.” Now, if that didn’t effectively put the blame on racism, as the culprit behind the current woes in Baltimore, the line at the end of the article puts the final nail in that coffin.

The writer, Christopher Ingraham, laments about the plight of the poor black men in Baltimore:

“As those men have been taken away or killed—or both, in Freddie Gray’s case—they’ve left empty houses to be boarded up and empty shoes that may never be filled.”

Clearly, we are supposed to have our heart strings plucked here and our anger embers stoked to a roaring flame of vitriol towards those dirty rotten white, elitist, wealthy, racist, people who caused this calamity.

However, let’s really take a look at the root cause of all this economic disparity. After all, shouldn’t we find out who has been in charge and hold them accountable for letting this city and others like it slip into such decline? Baltimore is located in the state of Maryland. Since 1969 Maryland has elected and had a Democrat governor for 42 of the 46 years in question. The current Governor is a Democrat.

What about the Mayors of Baltimore, aren’t they really the ones who are supposed to fix the city they are elected to govern?

Since 1967, to the present, a full 48 years, Baltimore has had not one single Mayor who was not a member of the Democrat Party.

Every Mayor of the city has been, without exception, a Democrat, who promised to fix the damage done by the evil, old, racist white men…in the GOP. Of course, they fail to point out that not one GOP candidate has made it into office so that the blame could even be theirs.

Let’s look at another city in economic decline, Detroit, Michigan. If we look back at who has been in charge of this once great economic center of the car industry, what do we find? Since 1962, every single Mayor elected to the city of Detroit has been a Democrat. How about St. Louis, a city ranked in the top 5 most dangerous U.S. cities? Since 1949, every single Mayor of St. Louis has been a Democrat. Another city on the list of most dangerous was Cleveland, Ohio which in the last 73 years, since 1942, has had a Democrat Mayor in 59 of those 73 years. The last GOP mayor in Cleveland was over 26 years ago. I could continue, but I think the pattern is patently clear.

So, why do the folks, who vote at the ballot box continue to elect a Party with such a long history of failures? Thousands of ballots have been cast in election after election and all those elected have accomplished is to slowly kill the city they were supposed to have restored to some former glory. That is what I call, Death by a thousand paper cuts…ballot paper cuts. However, please continue to tell us, how the problems in cities like Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, and St. Louis, are the fault of the angry, racist, white men of the GOP.
