Functional Fitness

Just step inside any gym and you’ll see people performing a variety of training styles; machine maniacs, free-weight strength trainers, people who love their cardio and somewhere in the corner- the latest breed, functional fitness trainers.
I train out of a gym where functional training is creating a wave of excitement. This type of training style improves the body’s performance by mimicking everyday movements that incorporate full body effort.Â

What I personally love about functional training is that you can get both your cardio and strength sessions done at the same time; for busy moms who are being pulled in several directions every day, this is a bonus!
For a quick 30 minute full body killer workout try one of my favorite routines…all you need is a pair of dumbbells. I recommend 8 to 10 pounds for a good burn! If you are a beginner and are just getting started drop the weight to 5 lbs or use none at all.
Start off with a 5 minute warm up, then do each exercise for 30 seconds with a 10 second rest in between and repeat 3 times.
