Oregon’s First Mistress?

Oregon has had the same Governor for 12 years. Dr. John Kitzhaber is just wrapping up his 3rd term in office and is running for a historic 4th term. How did he get this much time at the helm? He governed for 8 years, stepped back while a crony took over for another 8 and then promptly got voted back in.
As much as I dislike the man as Governor, it reflects more poorly on the citizens that voted him in than it does on the man himself.
Oregon doesn’t make national news much but you may have recently seen on the news that his live-in girlfriend, Cylvia Hayes, whom they call the “first lady of Oregon,” has been in hot water for some actions she pulled in the 90s. Of course, a person’s past shouldn’t cloud her now boyfriend’s run for governor, should it?
Here are the facts; you decide.
In 1997 Cylvia Hayes got married. Marriage is a great portrait of Christ’s relationship with His church and nothing is more precious than holy matrimony. However, she married a much younger man who was only 18 years old at the time. He was also an Ethiopian. A newspaper was able to dig this up and last week she admitted she married him so he could stay in the country.
I call this “Immigration Fraud.”
Also in the late 90s Ms. Hayes bought a 60 acre piece of property in Washington State with her then-boyfriend that was intended for a marijuana grow operation that never materialized.
I call this “Intention to break Federal law,” because it is still federal law that you are not to grow, sell or use marijuana.
Who knows what else will be dug up from the 90s about Ms. Hayes personal life? We will move onto her activities while being “first lady of Oregon.
From her website:
Cylvia has 22 years of professional experience in sustainable economic development, clean energy, workforce development, green building, and waste prevention. She served as a member and co-chair of the Oregon Renewable Energy Working Group, which developed the state Renewable Energy Standard, Renewable Fuels Standard, and other clean energy policies.
Cylvia is the founder and CEO of 3EStrategies, a clean economy consulting firm; is a Fellow of the Washington, DC-based, Clean Economy Development Center, the Center for State Innovation, and the American Leadership Forum; and has expertise in collaborative leadership skills.
Oregon’s governor just happens to be a huge proponent of being “green.” So much so that he’s destroyed local economies because of his policies aimed at protecting the earth but leaving the human beings who are stewards of that earth up a creek without a paddle. Or a paycheck.
When digging through Oregon documents on education and Common Core we found all kind of links to other documents about the “Green Economy.” Ms. Hayes company and/or name was found on many of these documents as a consultant or leader of the policy being reviewed. Some people call this “coincidence.” Sure, it could be. But considering she’s sleeping with the governor, I’m pretty sure I’ll call this “favoritism, nepotism, sleeping your way to the top,” and a number of other creative adjectives and that’s not including what it really is which is a huge “Ethical Violation” on both her part and the governor’s.
I’m sure that I am not the only one in Oregon to see that Cylvia Hayes might be making bank on big projects her boyfriend governor probably threw at her.
However, since the revelations of her late 90s activities the Oregon Republican Party has decided to file a formal ethics complaint.
Considering that I, a stay at home mom who does her research, could tell that there had to be something fishy with Ms. Hayes contracts I just cannot believe that folks in the Oregon legislature couldn’t see this too. So excuse me while I take issue with and am thinking that it’s a little too late for Oregon repubs to be up in arms.
Of course, there can’t be anything against the law or ethically wrong going on…after all, if there was, I’m sure that Governor Kitzhaber’s office wouldn’t have miraculously requested an overview of the contracts to make sure they were “ethical.” Well, I would believe that, possibly, if they had requested these reviews at the time the decision to add her consulting firm to contracts was made, but seeing that it was requested Monday the 13th of October, as in this week, after her scandalous past came to light and the scrutiny was on the Governor’s office…excuse me if I don’t buy it.
In a Gubernatorial debate this week all of this was brought up by Representative Dennis Richardson who is running against Kitzhaber this time around. He also pointed out that the contracts that were submitted to “review” were tampered with before they were submitted.
After what seemed like many, many questions on ethics and the Governor’s seeming lack of them it was finally down to closing remarks.
And as God is my witness, Democrat Governor John Kitzhaber, who has so much to answer for (like Oregon being ranked 49th in the US for education, wasting 300 million dollars on a defunct Obamacare exchange, the Columbia River Crossing project from hell) had the intestinal fortitude to say that this election is about ethics. Apparently assuming that his are better than his opponents because his ethics are in line with a woman’s right to manage her own reproductive health, equal rights and gay marriage proponent, and environmental policies.
Considering gay marriage and abortion are legal in Oregon and his environmental policies are in place, what else does he have to offer?
Oh, I know…he’s going to marry Cylvia Hayes. Make her an honest woman, eh, governor?
I wish my articles had sound because you could all laugh hysterically with me. Because the sad thing is? Many of us conservatives have little doubt he could win again. In fact, his lady friend’s activities might even help him.
Welcome to Oregon. Down is up and left is right here. Enjoy the freak show.
