FDA Targeting Natural Products: Who’s Next On Their Hit List? God?

PolitiChicks.comThe long arm of the government has struck again with a gag order from the FDA telling people not to say things that Big Brother doesn’t approve of. In the past, they have gone after nutritional supplements, birth pools, farmers selling raw milk to their neighbors, homeopathic remedies, chiropractors, anything and everything that makes a claim to do anything about illness that is not a synthetic, patented pharmaceutical drug.

Last week three companies that sell natural products, including essential oils, were hand-delivered letters rebuking them for making fraudulent marketing claims on the internet about their products. Many of the people who are involved with these companies are independent distributors who believe in their products wholeheartedly, but big government wants to silence them, even though they can back up their claims with scientific studies, and their own testimonies.

According to the Washington Post, the companies “all produce products that were promoted on the Web as cures for a variety of ailments, all without FDA approval. The products in question, the letters note, are not FDA-approved drugs, yet their marketing makes the sort of claims that only approved drugs may make — that they can be used to treat, mitigate, prevent and cure diseases.”

To be perfectly clear, the FDA has stated that it is against the law for ANYONE besides a licensed doctor to diagnose anything. Diagnosing illness, whether mental or physical, is something that the government of the land of the free and the home of the brave has decreed that only people who are really smart and have letters after their name can do. It’s a not-so-secret society that certain people have paid lots of money and spent many years to get into, so they cannot allow just anybody, like the common peons on the street, to trespass on their turf.

So, unless you took little Johnny to a doctor to get an official diagnosis, please don’t tell grandma that your kid has a cold or a stomach bug. You just diagnosed, you lowdown criminal. Who do you think you are?

Worse than that is for you, an ordinary person, to have the audacity to treat an illness with something besides an approved drug that you got from the drug companies. Remember, the FDA says that ONLY an approved drug can “treat, mitigate, prevent or cure” anything.

The government frowns upon people claiming that chicken soup or Vitamin C or an herb or essential oil can cure or prevent anything, because that type of claim is fraudulent unless it is about a drug. If someone says something can cure or prevent an ailment, that means they just called it a drug. Legally, only synthesized, patented, (profitable) pharmaceuticals have the blessing of the FDA to cure anything, even though they carry with them a host of short and long-term side effects and risks, including death.

The FDA last month changed its definition of drugs on its website to make it so that anything other than synthetic drugs made by big pharma now falls under their jurisdiction if they make any kind of health claims. That means that for any company to comply, it will require huge bucks (and bribery) to jump through all the government hoop:

“If a product is intended for a therapeutic use, such as treating or preventing disease, or to affect the structure or function of the body, it’s a drug. For example, claims that a product will relieve colic, ease pain, relax muscles, treat depression or anxiety, or help you sleep are drug claims. …The fact that a fragrance material or other ingredient comes from a plant doesn’t keep it from being regulated as a drug. Under the law, drugs must meet requirements such as FDA approval for safety and effectiveness before they go on the market.”

Because of the recent bully letters from the FDA, people are scrambling and confused about what they can or cannot say on their own Facebook and Twitter pages or to their own friends, even when they have piles of documented studies to back them up, or even when the product has worked for them or their family. They are scared to tell the truth. This overreach by the FDA would make criminals out of a bunch of grandmas and stay-at-home moms who are just trying to keep their families healthy without drugs (the traditional definition of drugs, not the new one).

Make no mistake. This is about the freedom to make our own health decisions. Government is working overtime to take that away.

In the past, the FDA has gone after companies who sell things like walnuts and cherries, because they had the audacity to say that their products had health benefits. Even though the companies had the studies to back them up, the government called the walnuts and cherries drugs, based on the factual claims. As such, they fell under the domain and control of the FDA.

Many of these natural products, like cinnamon or frankincense, have been around far longer than the FDA or even the United States of America. Some are even mentioned in the Bible. These things should not be under the domain of the FDA.

There are literally thousands of peer-reviewed scientific studies on the effectiveness of these products. Yet, if a distributor says something in a non-approved way, the government can shut them down.

Humanity has been relying on plant-based herbs and essential oils for millennia for health and healing, but somehow government thinks it has the authority to tell people that they cannot tell what they know. That is now the domain of doctors and drug companies, with the blessings bought and paid for from the FDA.

Who is next on the FDA hit list? God? Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Did God make a claim that joy can heal? But, He didn’t get FDA approval to write that in the Bible! Never mind that God wrote that millennia before the FDA existed.

This ultimately comes down to a freedom of religion issue for many people. God is the one who HEALS, not just cures, all manner of diseases. People should not need to get permission from the government to share testimonies of how God used a product to make an illness go away. God can heal through whatever means He chooses, even prayer, even nutrition, even plant-based remedies, and He does not need FDA approval to do so.

With this latest crackdown by the FDA, it is obvious that the government believes that it has the right to chill freedom of speech. People are angry and confused. Some are re-reading their Constitution. It is possible that people will quietly acquiesce, reluctantly giving up more liberty, watching our freedoms erode even further. But it is also possible that people will rise up and fight back, calling on their legislators to stop the overreach by the FDA, writing letters and making phone calls and taking action.

Which will it be? What will you do?
