What’s In This PolitiChick’s Purse?

As little girls, we loved to look inside women’s purses. We wanted to see what color lipstick they had; pat powder from their compact on our noses; smell their perfume samples, and chew their gum. Well, nothing’s changed—we still want to know what is inside those wonderful, glorious, mysterious bags! So along with our new Fashion page, we are going to open up our purses and share with you some of our favorite, must-have items in a feature we’re calling “What’s In This Chick’s Purse?”
This week Ann-Marie shares her purse (and the contents within) with all of you.
About her tan Coach purse Ann-Marie says,
“I bought this purse at a Coach outlet store two years ago–it was 75% off plus I had a coupon for an additional 10% off! I had to stand outside in the freezing cold for almost an hour just to get in the store (okay, freezing for California is in the 50’s, but still…) but it was worth it because my Coach bag is sturdy enough to withstand major abuse and the wear and tear of lots of travel.”
1. Sunglasses. “A girl’s best friend for sun, makeup-less days and better than plastic surgery when standing next to a 20-year old.”
2. Water. “I hate soda so water is all I ever drink. I always have a bottle of water in my purse.”
3. Reading glasses. “2.5 strength…Stupid old age…”
4. Book 1-sheet. “I have to carry a stack of these everywhere I go to promote our book ‘What Women (Really) Want’. True story, I gave one to my aunt in Texas last month and she looked at the card, looked at me, then asked, ‘Which one are you supposed to be?’ Ah, airbrushing…”
5. Mini tin of Altoids. “For those times when it’s not appropriate to chew gum, like just before interviewing someone…”
6. Pocket Constitution. “I bought this the first time I visited the Reagan Library 4 years ago. It’s battered and bruised because I carry it with me every time I fly, ready to recite my 4th Amendment in case anyone tries to unlawfully ‘search and cease’.”
7. Photo booth picture. “A friend had a photo booth and props at their wedding, really fun. We went to another SoCal wedding where they had an In & Out catering truck! Epic.”
8. Sparkly mirror. “Because every Chick needs a sparkly mirror.”
9. Travel-sized “Cherry Blossom” lotion, Bath & Body Works. “One of my friends gave this to me and now I never leave home without it. It’s a great way to feel refreshed and smell pretty after being out all day.”
10. Lancome eyeliner. “It’s made like a magic marker and stays on forever. Love it.”
11. Smashbox lip-gloss. “I’m usually not a gloss girl, but this stuff isn’t sticky and is long lasting.”
12. LA Zoo passes and voting ballot stub. “I love the LA Zoo, and sometimes go there by myself just to get a little exercise. And the stub is from the recent California primary elections…argh…”
13. Benefit PoreFessional. “This stuff is awesome—sort of spackle for your skin. Excellent under makeup or for touch-ups during the day.”
14. Orbit chewing gum. “I have two addictions—hairspray and chewing gum. And ice cream. Okay, three.”
15. Lancome concealer. “A gazillion years ago I used to work for Lancome; I got everything for free back then and am still a fan of a lot of their products. This concealer is yellow-based which is perfect for my skin color and hides sooooo many flaws…”
16. Travel-sized Tums. “I have ulcerative colitis so these things are sometimes life savers for me when I travel. And they taste good, too—not as good as Flintstones vitamins, of course, but close.”
