The Trifecta of Weight Loss

According to one of the definitions in the Urban Dictionary a trifecta is “a perfect group of three”. I’ll go ahead and let you go find what it lists as the other definition. Typically the term is used in sports and most commonly in horse racing. For now I’ll concentrate on the former definition because it so perfectly embodies my recent discovery of something quite profound:
It takes nutrition and exercise to lose weight, but there is often a key third ingredient missing. You have to have a sound, loving mind to keep it off.
For many I’m sure this is first grade stuff, for me however it’s literally life changing. You see after years of battling with my self worth, I am finally able to look in the mirror and smile. Seems silly doesn’t it? I kind of have to agree. Why is it so hard to muster up that simple yet profound act of love: “Hello Me” and then cue a smile?
Although I put quite an emphasis on good nutrition, which is extremely important and the foundation of a sound body coupled with some form of exercise regimen for weight loss, I am convinced that true health can’t be accomplished without a sound mind. That is why, I believe, so many of us struggle year after year, decade after decade with weight issues, or body image issues, or even worse- eating disorders. It is crucial to develop and exercise a sound mind if we want to succeed in building that strong and healthy body. You see it’s a little like a stool, if you’re missing a leg, you’re just going to keep toppling over.
Perhaps you have a little forgiving to do, like I did, in order to love yourself, and by that I mean forgive yourself.
To forgive, accept, love and smile at me– well that was hard to do, but once I did- BANG! The doors blew wide open and God was able to pour so much more into me. I was ready to accept and to grow; to put away the old and put on the new. As the old proverb goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”
The moral of the story dear friends is this, love yourself. Nourish and cherish yourself. I’m sure you have plenty to smile about!
