Day 180 for Andrew Tahmooressi

When I was a little girl anytime I felt distress or sorrow my mother would say to me, “Give it to God, let Him use it to help someone in need.” I never quite understood this; how could my troubles be used by God, for good of all things? As I grew older I came to realize that what my mother was teaching me was how powerful The Almighty is, that He can take all my troubles and emotions and turn them into energy, not allow that energy created to be wasted.
I have been disabled by spinal cord damage since 1987, over the years my mobility has become more and more limited such that at any given moment, I am a prisoner in my body. There are times when things are so difficult for me that I take myself to the one fertile spot left me, my active imagination. It is there I have no limitations, no pain or weakness, I am as able and capable as I wish to be. Last night was one of those times, I will spare the details but tell you that as I struggled to climb back into my bed for the fifth time in three hours and wearily lay my head upon my pillow, my little girl self heard my mother’s voice say to me, “Give it to God, let Him use it to help someone in need.”
Today is Day 180 in a literal prison in Mexico for Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi. He has been forced to endure untold distress, pain, indignity, at one point they had him in solitary confinement, “staked to four corners” naked with each limb chained to a bedpost. What crime had Andrew committed, what awful deed had he done to deserve that and the other tortures he has suffered these six months?
He mistakenly got into a left turn-only lane.
Yesterday I read that Barack Obama has signed an Executive Order to allow illegal aliens the ability to enlist in our military to receive citizenship as compensation for service. Imagine that, men who have deliberately broken our laws, snuck into the United States of America and have “been hidden in the shadows” as the euphemism goes, will now be allowed to wear the uniform of our country and have conferred upon them all the Constitutional protections afforded us citizens, while he has allowed this Marine who has served our nation with honor and distinction to remain isolated and ignored when Sgt. Tahmooressi never wanted to go to Mexico in the first place. He made a simple driving error, one quite understandable considering he did not know the area, it was very dark, and a great deal of construction was being undertaken there to add to the confusion. I recently read an article that stated someone in the State Department is questioning Andrew’s story – what’s to question? Why has this Marine been abandoned by his country and his Commander-in-Chief?
It is long past time that Andrew receives his freedom back, that he be allowed to return home. No more candlelight vigils, no more protests at various Mexican consulates around the U.S., no more Marines making the long trek across the country to present their demand that their fellow Marine be given the attention and true justice he deserves. In my last article for PolitiChicks I cited U.S. Code Section 1732; for those who may have missed it I repeat the content:
Whenever it is made known to the President that any citizen of the United States has been unjustly deprived of his liberty by or under the authority of any foreign government, it shall be the duty of the President forthwith to demand of that government the reasons of such imprisonment; and if it appears to be wrongful and in violation of the rights of American citizenship, the President shall forthwith demand the release of such citizen, and if the release so demanded is unreasonably delayed or refused, the President shall use such means, not amounting to acts of war and not otherwise prohibited by law, as he may think necessary and proper to obtain or effectuate the release; and all the facts and proceedings relative thereto shall as soon as practicable be communicated by the President to Congress.
Is Obama going to claim he is unaware of Sgt. Tahmooressi’s plight because yet again, he has not heard about it in the news? His Secretary of State is aware, why has not John Kerry directed Ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne, the president’s personal representative to Mexico to contact President Enrique Peña Nieto and exercise President Obama’s duty under United States law by demanding Sgt. Tahmooressi’s release? With his crumbling poll numbers you would think Obama might be interested in gaining the positive PR points such an act would score for him – so why does he not do it? Why does he leave this Marine to suffer in this manner?
Please God, use my distress and sorrow to help this man in need, for he most assuredly suffers more that I at this time.
