Thousands of Christians are fleeing communities they have lived in for almost 2,000 years following ISIS’ recent demands that they convert to Islam, pay jizya- an Islamic tax imposed on infidels, or be killed for their faith. Virtually no Western leader has done anything to stop these atrocities. Dr. Munir S. Kakish, Chairman Council of Local Evangelical Churches in the Holy Land, told The Christian Post recently that “ISIS must be stopped before it wipes out Christians from other areas.”
ISIS, which took over Mosul and much of the surrounding region, gave Christians 72 hours to comply saying, “We offer them three choices: Islam; the dhimma contract… payment of jizya; if they refuse this they will have nothing but the sword,” an ISIS statement was read out at Mosul’s mosques, BBC News reported.
Many Christian leaders and persecution watchdog groups have called for international help to protect Iraq’s Christians but so far response has been tepid at most with very few reports from mainstream news outlets. Many Christians are reportedly fleeing to Kurdistan, which for the most part Kurds have managed to secure their borders and escape militants’ attacks. As many as 60,000 Christians lived in Mosul prior to 2003 and the U.S.-led operations against Saddam Hussein. By June 2014, that number had fallen to 35,000, while another 10,000 fled following ISIS’ initial attacks.
Churches in Mosul have been attack and ransacked and ISIS recently destroyed the Mosque of the Prophet Yunus or Younis (Jonah) which is on one of the two most prominent mounds of ruins of ancient Ninevah. This is believed to be the tomb of the Biblical Jonah from the 8th century BC, and is one of the most important and historic mosques in Mosul which was found on the east side of the city. At least four shrines to Sunni or Sufi figures and six Shiite mosques in the northern province of Nineveh have been destroyed around Mosul.
If this hasn’t been bad enough, while the FAA was cancelling flights out of Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, the terrorists issued orders that all girls and women in and around Mosul undergo female genital mutilation. The “fatwa” by ISIS could potentially affect 4 million women and girls, and U.N. resident and humanitarian coordinator in Iraq Jacqueline Badcock told reporters by videolink from Iraq that “This is not the will of Iraqi people, or the women of Iraq in these vulnerable areas covered by the terrorists.”
For those who believe that Conservatives and Republicans in the US are waging a “war on women” because other people shouldn’t have to pay for their birth control and abortions, they need to read up on what female genital mutilation is and realize that that practice along with stoning, imprisonment, wife beating, public caning as well as so called honor killings are becoming more common place in Muslim dominant areas, especially those which Progressive Democrats supported through Obama’s pull out of Iraq and soon the same will happen in Afghanistan when we leave the people to the Taliban and other jihadist groups.
There is the continued terrorism of Boko Haram, you know, who kidnapped over 200 girls from a school in Nigeria which caused Hollywood and White House selfies and hash tag appeals to #BringbackourGirls. Even though hash tags are hard to come by these days as all lament Israel’s treatment of Hamas, they have kidnapped the wife of Cameroon’s vice-prime minister and at least three people were killed in an attack on July 27th. Before that, least 21 people were killed in a northeastern town of Damboa, which is now said to be deserted as many people have fled to neighboring towns, and the town is only defended by vigilante groups.
Here in the US, while illegals including MS13 gang members, are pouring into our nation daily, Obama, democrat and some republican congress and media cry that it’s all about the children yet I don’t see any of them rushing to try and bring persecuted children from war torn Syria, Libya, Iraq and Nigeria over as refugees.
This past Sunday morning on ‘Face the Nation’, Bob Schieffer remarked on some of what’s going on and says it appears as if we’re in a “world gone mad.” Yet typical of US news there was no mention of Obama’s hypocrisy, telling Israel what to do, when he’s allowing all hell to break loose on our own borders and in the Middle East where he has had a major part in many regime changes- changes for the worst when it comes to Christians and non-Sunni Muslims.
