Common Core #WeWillNotConform
Attending Glenn Beck’s live show #WEWILLNOTCONFORM on July 22nd at our local movie theater, it was heartening to enter a packed house. When it comes to a topic as important as the education of our children, everyone shares the same concerns as they see the questionable things their children are bringing home from school.
The presentation was broken down into various groups attacking the issue from different angles: from demanding our state representatives sponsor and pass legislation repealing all Common Core State Standards (CCSS) curriculum to getting familiar and speaking with our local school board members; researching and getting the word out about the many tentacles of the monster that IS the Common Core State Standards; speaking one on one with friends, family members and acquaintances and finding common ground and opening their eyes to the problems with the Common Core State Standards; and utilizing social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
There are so many problematic aspects in the Common Core State Standards it is difficult to pinpoint any single issue. We have seen the convoluted methods our children are being taught to solve simple math problems. We have seen the information about data collection and the age inappropriate reading materials.
This is not a problem that can be solved by refusing to send our children to public schools and opting instead for private or charter schools, or homeschooling. Billions of our tax dollars go towards funding our public school system. We have to take back the control of how this money is spent. Our public school system should be the best we can provide for children of all backgrounds. This is one of the necessary and good reasons we pay taxes, to assure that all children from all backgrounds will have the same level of education that will provide them with the same opportunities to succeed in their adult lives as productive, happy, contributing members of our society.
One thing is certain, when it comes to the education of our children we must all come together if we are going to stop Big Government and Big Education from controlling our public schools from the federal level. It violates the Constitution and it violates our right to educate our children as we deem appropriate.
