Oregon Shuts Out Citizens’ Voices

This would have been a perfect time for Common Core warriors to go and fill that hearing with people against Smarter Balanced and against the Common Core in general. There have been times that an OAR has not went through because there were enough cries of dissent. However, just like a king would run things, the State DOE must not have felt it was necessary to let the people know about it.
People who are signed up to receive notifications for hearings and meetings did not receive such notification. I am sure that the state DOE would have an explanation, excuse or “good reason” as to why people didn’t receive notification; however, seeing as how things tend to be run around this here country ala “pen and a phone” dictatorship, I believe Oregon is just following in Big Brother’s footsteps.
It might possibly be related to the fact that the state of Oregon is finally getting negative feedback on the Common Core. The last public hearing they had saw a small gathering of around 20 people, protesting the Common Core. Yes, I am aware that 20 people is not huge. However, a year ago we couldn’t find 20 people who even knew what the Common Core was, so I count this as a win.
All of this to say that no matter what state you live in keep your ears open and your heads up. You have to watch everything your state does. Do you know the steps your governor or state DOE has done to implement and cement the Common Core and the new assessments? Quit letting these people run over you. They are supposed to be representative of you, not bypassing all public input and just doing what they want to do or what the people who are paying them exorbitant amounts of money to push this education reform down your throats.
