MAD Magazine’s “Scenes We’d Like to See” 2014-Style
As a child, I was extremely fond of MAD MAGAZINE. One of my favorites was the strip by the late Don Martin of “Scenes We’d Like to See” consisting of satirical scenes of current events twisted as only Mad could. It was both comedy and commentary but of course, this was during a time when people could see comedy in everyday events without serious offense. Political correctness meant voting in any and every election, like a good citizen.
Looking at the headlines, I thought that there are many “scenes I’d like to see”. “Trump offers 50 million to Obama for truth about financial aid” is a perfect example. I would like to see Obama accept the offer. He could put the money against the deficit, (and it might even cover a small portion of the money he has spent on family vacations).
How about his “red line” on Syria? It might be comical to see a strip drawn showing Obama with a big red crayon drawing a line around Syria with an extremely angry Al Assad following behind him with a giant eraser.
As if comedians and international journalists haven’t ripped up the subject enough with Obama and Putin, a cartoon could consist of Putin looking bored as his hand on Obama’s forehead holds him at arm’s reach, Lucy and Ricky style, as O takes a bunch of wild swings at him. How funny would that be?
We could see a drawing of Obama bowing or tying his shoes or something to Saudi King Abdullah. Maybe he dropped his contact lens or something. There has to be endless ways to get a laugh out of a strip with this subject matter. Of course I’m not sure anything can top Jimmy Fallon and Sarah Palin’s phone call parody about how Putin comes from “good genes” and Obama comes from “mom jeans.”
How about our Marine being held in Mexico? Or perhaps, Miriam Ibrahaim and her American children in prison in Sudan for her faith? How about Pastor Saeed in Iran? How about our American diplomat and Navy Seals in Benghazi? How about the latest in the poor treatment of our veterans by the VA?
Not funny, is it? These are our people being left behind because no one takes us seriously anymore. Our leadership is a big joke and our people are abandoned. Our government could not run a game of musical chairs without corrupting it, or at the very least bankrupting it.
As a Judeo-Christian nation, we should be the first to defend those who embrace our faith. Especially those who have the courage to leave Islam and become Christian, or share their faith, even at the peril of their own lives. The men and women of our armed forces who constantly put their own lives on hold to defend our way of life should be treated with care and deference. However, this is not the case, is it? The fact that a United States Marine is languishing in a Mexican jail cell, while we have given billions in aid to our southern neighbor in their times of need is absolutely an outrage!
Finally, the last “scene I’d would like to see” could be about Jay Carney’s resignation. Everyone grew tired of seeing him try to defend the POTUS. Guess he finally hit his maximum level of equestrian residue.
