Cruz Against the Machine: The “Uncool” Strike Back

Finally some good news: The once secret, now private, conservative Hollywood group, Friends of Abe, has just received its 501(c)3 status, which has been three years in the making, after being harassed by the I.R.S. I’ll give props to the New York Times for the reporting of the I.R.S.’s egregious targeting of the group, as they may have been instrumental in shaming the agency into acquiescing.
So now that Friends of Abe is no longer a secret, it’s probably safe to say that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) spoke at an “FOA” event last Saturday (at an undisclosed location), with a turnout of nearly 400 Hollywood Conservatives.
Taking over the stage with no notes or a Teleprompter in sight (Sen. Cruz joked that all the Teleprompters were tied up in Washington), Sen. Cruz spoke passionately and eloquently about liberty and real hope and change for the future. One of my favorite quotes of the day was, “Reaganomics is starting a business in your garage; Obamanomics is moving into your parents’ garage.” And, without missing a beat, Sen. Cruz even joked about the poster that had seen all over LA last weekend (credited to street artist Sabo), featuring a tatted up Sen. Cruz with a ciggy hanging out of his mouth. Instead of being offended, Sen. Cruz took to twitter and responded, “Saw this, but noticed an error. So I wanted to make one thing clear: I don’t smoke cigarettes”. Sen. Cruz even signed a poster for one of the guests at another event later that evening. How cool is that? Imagine a petulant President Obama finding himself on the same poster. I can already hear the cries of racism by his sycophants.
Speaking of cool, a new Youtube video featuring Sen. Cruz, entitled “Cruz Against the Machine,” is starting to go viral on social media, sparked by the enthusiasm generated by the poster. The video, produced by the anonymous Ghost Army Dispatches, has Sen. Cruz’s face photoshopped into a variety of tough guy pictures with his best quotes streaming continuously. The whole vibe of the video feels fresh and edgy – and dare I say, sexy. After hearing Sen. Cruz speak several times, and briefly meeting him, I believe the video truly captures his spirit. Looks like the “uncool” are striking back.
After five years of a rainbow emblazened, mom jean wearing, bike helmeted, dictator bowing, girly baseball throwing President, recently seen hawking Obamacare on the allegedly cool Funny or Die (I chose death), many are ready for something badass – or even “wacko bird”.
