A PolitiChick’s State of the Union Address
Fellow citizens (now that I’m an official American citizen, I’m allowed to say that now!),
Samuel Adams once said, “No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.”
One year ago, Obama stood before this Nation and delivered his speech on the State of this Union. He mentioned the usual talking points of a politician, saying everything is going great, but ‘we can do better’, as if We the People are included in the decision making of our movers and shakers in Washington. Obama spoke his usual articulate fluff, saying, “The American people don’t expect government to solve every problem. They don’t expect those of us in this chamber to agree on every issue. But they do expect us to put the nation’s interests before party…”
He was right in a way, as most people do not expect the federal government to solve every problem, yet that hasn’t stopped those who view their duty not of representing the people, instead, as using every means necessary to make the federal government the be all and end all of what resembles the biggest nursery on the planet, therefore gaining perpetual votes from a class of people who through generations have never known what it’s like to survive without government programs and welfare.
With Obamacare, our government has taken over a third of a private healthcare industry. What do people get for this privilege of government run socialized health? Well one has to sign up for it before one can know what is in it.
For the promise of affordable care for all- meaning those who couldn’t afford insurance before this monstrosity was forced on this nation, under threats of fines, well, many of them still can’t afford it, and will still be without it, yet those who had great private insurance plans have been driven into the government system because they lost their coverage with their old insurance. So, when the IRS shows up at your door demanding to know why you haven’t signed up through government websites for government insurance, remember Obama’s words, “The American people don’t expect government to solve every problem.”
Better yet, maybe now is the time to remember Ronald Reagan’s words, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.‘”
As if the federal government takeover of the healthcare industry isn’t bad enough, the law was passed in such a way that private corporations have had to spend millions on lawsuits to have their right to freedom of religion protected, by not having to pay for procedures such as abortions because it goes against their religious beliefs or conscience. In our Union today, the freedom of Religion, especially the religion this country was founded on, Christianity, is under assault by our federal government, atheist groups and people who have forgotten or never knew what the 1st Amendment to the Constitution has to say, and I’ll give you a hint: This phrase, Separation of Church and State is not there.
Our Constitution is under assault from both political parties in Washington. From the Freedom of Religion, to the right to keep and bear arms, from privacy rights and states’ rights- the Obama administration with the help of most Democrats and many Republicans, have erased the barriers our Founding fathers erected to separate the powers of the three branches of Government.
Obama has demonstrated his conviction that he has ultimate authority to do whatever he wants, the Constitution be damned.
While America’s Constitution is being subverted by our own government, those who have defended the Constitution and the freedoms of people all around the world, no one seems to be looking out for them. The State of the Union for our Troops and Veterans is abysmal to say the least.
When a government demoralizes and transforms its own military, how can those who swore an oath and shed blood on it have any confidence in those who send them into harm’s way? When a government has a tradition of leaving Americans behind, whether in the jungles of Vietnam, or in the violent attacks in Benghazi, or from the mountains of Afghanistan, how can our troops trust that our government has their backs?
When Obama, Joe Biden and others give out highly sensitive information to make themselves look good at the expense of our Special Forces, who have suffered incredible loss due to dangerous Rules of Engagement (ROEs)? With the downing of the Chinook Helicopter, Extortion 17, which killed all on board including 15 members of SEAL Team 6, the same team who took out OBL, how can anyone who serves this country proudly feel that they will not suffer similar fates?
From keeping Veterans from visiting their own memorials, to cutting yet more of their benefits our government has used Veterans and basically told them that they have served their purpose, now go away.
Speaking of benefits, while our Veterans and troops have more stripped from them, supposedly to avoid a budget crisis, our government has no problem giving billions to other countries who hate us, or to illegals who have poured over our southern borders and are given everything from food stamps to health care. With over 60,000 of our national heroes who are homeless, to see that the Obama administration is working towards ‘resettling’ 30,000 Syrians ‘refugees’ is an outrage. While it’s sad that the crisis in Syria has grown beyond epic proportions, perhaps if our government stopped arming terrorists in Syria, many Syrians would not be driven from their homes and villages. One has to wonder about these refugees however, when one considers previous refugees that our country has been forced to accept in the past, including Somali Muslims, Ethiopian, Sudanese and Pakistani Muslims?
And don’t get me started on the fact that we have homeless Veterans in this country while our government is providing $313 million in aid for mortgages for Palestinians in the West Bank.
Speaking of the West Bank, Palestinians and Israel, our government has been pushing for a peace treaty which would have disastrous consequences for our strongest Middle East ally, Israel. From encouraging European countries behind the scenes in their efforts to initiate banning imports of products coming West Bank settlements to considering a return to 1967 lines, which would divide Jerusalem, this administration is pandering to Palestinian’s Abbas.
Our government has been arming terrorists during a time of war, disrespecting allies, bargaining with Iran over their nuclear production programs and because of a arming terrorists in Syria, that war has spilled over into other nations including Iraq, where violence is at an all-time high since the highly publicized US troop withdrawal . While these events are happening in the Middle East, they could have future ramifications for US citizens here at home, especially since contrary to Obama’s claim that Al Qaida is on the run, they are more organized and violent than ever. With our present administration’s propensity towards appeasing Muslims, hiring Muslims with questionable ties in our government intelligence agencies and giving blanket amnesty to Muslims so called refugees, the terror threats we face are a legitimate concern.
Our Nation’s unemployment remains high in many areas of the country, while our government still considers amnesty or pathways for green cards for illegals that compete with Americans seeking jobs. The extra tax burdens on small businesses through Obamacare mandates and other regulations and rising prices are keeping the unemployment lines full. Add to that the sky high fuel prices, higher food prices and more people holding onto part time work or fewer hours, our economy is still way below levels of previous administrations.
In our Union, decade’s worth of democrat rule mean that cities such as Detroit are dead and Democrats have been divisive and while playing the race card at every turn, they are ignoring real racial violence that has hit virtually every major city in the Nation. Democrats have also played the ‘class’ card, blaming corporate greed and Wall Street cronyism on Republicans while ignoring their own ties with the super-rich and elites. Our national media outlets are more biased and progressive than ever before, and with many in our news media having direct ties to the Obama administration, is it any wonder that the majority of Americans are kept in the dark about the true State of our Union?
Obama will give his State of the Union Address on January 28th. Mark Levin on his radio program had an excellent idea for Republicans to boycott this year’s SOTUS and present their own case on the State of the Union, and give the American people a choice between liberty and tyranny. Somehow I doubt many in our houses of Congress will do it, but it would send a strong message to Constitutional Conservative voters from those who would consider the idea and actually do it. I can guarantee that people would remember it well, as many of us remember Joe Wilson during a special joint session of Congress speech….
