Why Hollywood Execs Should Embrace the Faith-Based Community

Hollywood has moved far beyond the days of Leave it to Beaver and Happy Days, replacing the once family-oriented, wholesome scripts of the past with what some believe to be the entertainment desires of the majority. But what these execs have lost track of is, “Who is the majority and does Hollywood really know anything about them?”
It is becoming more apparent that the larger consumer of Hollywood’s entertainment offerings are a “mystery audience” to Hollywood executives, according to Larry Poland at Variety. Poland tries to break it down for them, admitting what most of us on the Right already know–that this ‘mystery audience’ is made up of religious Judeo-Christian conservatives.
“It is a thread of mistaken notions about the faith community in the America, especially conservative ones of the Christian and Jewish variety,” Poland says. It’s difficult to deny this group’s importance when television shows like Duck Dynasty and The Bible miniseries have been such monumental hits.
“Philosophical Correctness” is what Poland attributes Hollywood’s lack of understanding of religious conservatives. “This [Philosophical Correctness] insulates them from a host of competent, reasonable, salt-of-the-earth people out there who believe in Jesus, the Bible or Torah and a four-millennia-old code of moral values.”
Maybe it’s time for Hollywood and Religious Conservatives to ‘do lunch’ together.
