The Left’s Mythical War on Women–Much Bigger than Rush

“Either you are a feminist or you are a sexist/misogynist. There is no box marked ‘other.” Ani DiFranco
“I wouldn’t call myself a feminist, because I think there are differences between men and women.” Shania Twain
It seems that the ‘war on women’ is still raging, according to the Democratic National Committee. Funny, but so far none of my friends or I have seen much, unless we count all the times Conservative women have been mocked, degraded or slandered. But everyone knows those don’t count because they’re Conservative women.
So what’s got the DNC’s knickers in a knot now? It seems the latest battle began with a Daily Caller op Ed written by Patrick Howley, in which he wrote that if liberals have their way “men will not be able to look at women’s bodies because that is a terrible thing to do.”
Mr. Howley’s commentary was actually about a scientific study which in part read, “Consistent with our main hypothesis, we found that participants focused on women’s chests and waists more and faces less when they were appearance-focused (vs. personality-focused).”
There was a second wave of attack made by the left in this case as well. This time their sites were set on Rush Limbaugh who had the nerve to talk about this story on his Dec.9th radio broadcast. Rush said, “It is said that men looking at women automatically “objectifies” them, which means puts them down. It means seeing them as less than human beings, that men ‘ogle’ women means that they are not seeing their brains.”
Rush began reading the same study which had already gotten Patrick in hot water. He went on,
The main purpose of this work was to examine the objectifying gaze toward women via eye tracking technology,’ according to the abstract of ‘My Eyes Are Up Here: The Nature of the Objectifying Gaze Toward Women’ by Sarah J. Gervais, Arianne M. Holland, and Michael D. Dodd’… So these people, these idiots, have discovered that attractive women got looked at more often than unattractive women… Folks, look, you can sit here and laugh at this and you can think it’s a joke… This is real, and while this is ludicrous… these are liberals. It’s who they are, it’s what they are, and they’re dead serious — and they are the thought police. This is no different than political correctness of thought, and what they want to try to establish is a taboo…Men looking at women is part of War on Women. Men gazing at women objectifies women, puts women down.
Both Patrick’s article and Rush’s segment were about more than just staring at certain parts of women. Howley said, “This is what the progressives exist to do. They take away our activities. If it’s an activity and it’s kind of fun or pleasurable, the progressives are going to take it away… That’s the very basis of their personality type. They’re the regulators. The hall monitors.”
Yes, both men included hyperbole but mixed valid truth about the results of this study. Howley said at the end of his piece , “I’m not saying looking at t*** is any kind of noble pursuit. But it’s one more freedom. It’s one more thing that has been allowed in this country since the time of James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. One more thing that we’re not going to be allowed to do in the progressive future… And you know what else? A lot of women like it.”
At the end of his monologue Rush said, “But there’s a way around this, guys. You gotta have fun with this, as you know…The first suggestion, the first way to deal with this that came into my mind, is you find yourself staring, looking at, casually glancing at a woman, but you know that it’s now socially taboo. You shouldn’t be doing it, and you think everybody is noticing you doing it and condemning you in their minds… So you walk up to the woman and say, “Would you please ask your breasts to stop staring at my eyes?””
Were these comments over the top? Heck yes, and that’s what makes these guys entertaining! But they also have a whole lot of truth in the way they deliver it. This is what separates them from guys like David Letterman, Ed Schultz, Bill Maher and others who just say downright mean and nasty remarks and project actual violent talk.
Later in Rush’s segment, he tells an old joke: “So a guy dies and goes to heaven and says, ‘God, why do you make women so beautiful?’ God says, ‘So that you will love them and have babies and perpetuate the race.’ And then the guy asks, ‘Why do you make them so dumb?’ and God says, ‘So that they will love you.'” But then he explains to the audience, “I love these stereotypical jokes. I mean, that’s the mother of all sexist jokes. But all great comedy, there’s always a grain of truth in there.”
The truth is that men and women are made differently no matter how much politically correct, hyper-sensitive liberals would like to force people to believe otherwise. Instead of a war on women, I see men being shoved into a metrosexual society, where they are expected to be feminized, and if it were possible, to have testosterone eradicated from the world once and for all.
Once upon a time, it was a sign of respect for a gentleman to open a door for a lady, or to offer her his seat. I grew up seeing my dad do this not only for my mom, but for his mother, his sister and any other women whether he knew them or not. I grew up expecting the same, but somewhere along the way, by the time I grew up many men were shamed into not doing this anymore. Feminists and progressives have tried to sensitize men and toughen up women even so far as making them feel guilty for wanting large families.
Not all of us want this unisex world. Not all women like our men to be hairless with baby smooth faces and immaculately manicured toe nails. Yes, many of us like our men to hold doors open for us, to offer their seat, and we like our guys to be strong. Face it, some women like rugged men. With chest hair and a day’s worth of stubble. Some of us love this song by Brad Paisley because it describes men; the kind of men who are real. And guess what? Some guys like women who act like ladies, yet have enough appeal to be noticed. Like it or not, humans have always been attracted by pretty things and good looks. We have masterpieces in art which have been admired by millions over centuries because of beauty. It’s the same with women, or there would be no such thing as Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, no Victoria Secret, no Madonna, who for all intents and purposes are liberal icons.
The truth is that most Conservative women are gorgeous on the outside and don’t need to flaunt everything as so many liberal women feel the need to do. Even those of us who aren’t as gifted with pretty looks, along with our beautiful sisters, have a lot more to offer from the inside which contrary to what some would claim, men do appreciate. We are intelligent, and men and women notice. We have strong opinions but we’re not angry or spiteful, and men appreciate this. We have our own thoughts (in spite of what liberals believe) and we usually march to a different drum, not boxing ourselves into any particular mold. We are our own selves and we don’t expect or demand everyone agree or follow everything we do or say and we don’t place ourselves in a ‘victim status’ because of a few leering looks or juvenile comments.
When are liberals ever going to behave like adults in that if they don’t like something, they ignore it like the rest of us do instead of demanding everyone change for their benefit? They won’t, because with them, it’s all about control. With this study, progressives can control the narrative that men (especially Conservative men) are disgusting and treat women horribly, and that all women everywhere ought to vote for Democrats because they care about women. Progressive Democrats will always need victim classes or they’d have no one to vote for them.
So of course now the Democrat National Committee has sent an email to supporters asking them to push Republicans to stop talking to Rush Limbaugh and The Daily Caller. Lily Adams, the DNC’s deputy communications director said in the email, “There’s a line between casual but unacceptable sexism and justifying sexual harassment. When someone as prominent as Rush Limbaugh crosses that line, everyone — Democrats and Republicans alike — needs to stop the precedent from becoming habit.”
Gee. I don’t seem to recall a mass effort on the part of the DNC to stop any of the Kennedy men, Bill Clinton or Anthony Weiner’s actual sexual harassment which have affected multitudes of women. I’ve been subject to real harassment (and worse) in my life. I’m not saying harassment and sexual violence don’t exist–they do, but it’s not about sex, it’s about power and control. What Rush and Patrick said was no more offensive than a joke, and calling these examples something more takes validity away from real experiences.
Rush Limbaugh and Patrick Howley may have made their audiences laugh or even blush, but those of us who enjoy the reasoning and common sense of men like this know that the real ‘war on women’ comes from those who constantly project their insecurities onto everyone else and try and force their agendas down everyone else’s throat for control.
Progressives are hypocrites and truth be told, the thought of strong women who are still gorgeous, smart, have families and are outspoken on real issues scare the hell out of them, because they realize that not all women are as sad and angry as they are.
