Immigration Debate: Why Buy the Cow When You Can Hop the Fence for Free?

“Hopping the fence or wading the Rio Grande River isn’t part of America’s immigration process.’’ ~Ted Nugent
“Quite simply, federal laws already on the books aimed at stopping the flow of illegal immigration must be enforced.” ~ Allen West
It was reported recently about some hecklers who interrupted one of Obama’s speeches in San Francisco, demanding he use executive authority to halt all deportations of illegals. The young man yelled out, “Mr. President, please use your executive authority to halt [deportations]. We agree that we need to pass comprehensive immigration reform, but at the same time, you have the power to stop deportations.”
This is a loaded statement, and when I first read about this last week, I thought it smelled like a set up by Obama’s people and those lobbying for illegal reform. Let me explain.
The so-called immigration debate has been going on for a long time, and under Obama, this issue has been hotly debated between lawmakers, including the Gang of 8, and the American public. The rhetoric has been constant- the immigration system is ‘broken’ and we need reform, and those millions of illegals who have been here, ought to be allowed to stay here, without having to live in the shadows. Meanwhile with the past 4 years of discussions, the border remains wide open, and it’s known that not only illegals are coming through on a daily basis, but so are drug cartels, violent criminals and terrorists.
Obama and others have shown disregard for the Constitutional separation of powers, previously blurring the lines of checks and balances between the three branches of our federal government. Lines which the Founding fathers ensured as James Madison explained, “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”
While Obama responded to the heckler that he “doesn’t have the power” to stop deportations, the actions and rhetoric from this administration and messages from others in the democrat party and liberals in the media, it doesn’t surprise me that this young man assumes that Obama can do whatever he wants. Since the recent move by Democrats in the Senate, blasting what little separation of powers that remain by invoking the nuclear option to stop filibusters, Obama’s over-indulgent use of the Executive Order, copious appointments of non-elected czars, and his using court decisions for his own purpose, people are going to keep being led to believe that the Executive office holds the most power over the rest of the government.
Pro-illegal groups know that Obama and the Democrats are pushing for illegal “reforms” and amnesty; there is really no need to heckle someone who is and has been pushing for it all along. Also, the timing of this was just too well done, and this gave Obama a wide audience to make his desires known by replying, “If, in fact, I could solve all these problems without passing the laws in Congress then I would do so.”
This is not the first time Obama has lamented about having to go through the legislative or judicial branches, and he has believed that he could go around congress on numerous occasions including : climate change, military strikes on Syria, secret negotiations giving away US sovereignty, and going to the FCC to lobby support for Billions in new taxes for Wi-Fi access in public schools.
And then there are other members of government who would advise Obama to break Constitutional law, for things such as: when former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner suggesting ending Congressional purview over the federal borrowing limit; when former House Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi suggested Obama be given dictatorial power to raise the debt ceiling; and most recently, public land grabs for national monuments.
Speaking of public monuments, we all remember a few months ago when Obama ordered national memorials barricaded, keeping our National treasures- our Veterans–from being able to see their own memorials. While at the same time Democrat leaders claimed pandering when a handful of Republican lawmakers went to talk to Veterans who were locked out, yet Democrat leaders and Obama allowed the National Mall to be opened for a rally for illegals (of which many Democrat lawmakers attended).
Look at it this way. The more a narrative is pushed, the more people are going to believe what they’re told. Just as so many Americans believe our government is a democracy, because so many politicians, media and educators keep referring the US as such when in actuality, the Founding Fathers created our government to be a Constitutional Republic. Just as many Americans believe there is mention of “separation of church and state” in the First Amendment when the phrase actually comes from Thomas Jefferson’s letter to Baptists ensuring them that the state has no right to involve itself in church business. And now, an equal number of Americans believe that the immigration system is broken and therefore needs fixing so Americans, especially immigrants such as those pushing Obama to sign an executive order to stop deportations and pass the dream act on his own, believe he can because they’ve been told that he can.
Face it. Illegal immigrants who continue to stream into America, joining the 11 million plus illegals already here, hold no allegiance to this Nation or our Constitution. Our federal government has blocked States from implementing laws to protect their citizens from violent criminals, and being over extended through more and more taxes to pay for welfare, law enforcement and incarceration costs, and medical costs because of illegals. At a time when millions of citizens have been un or under employed, to allow more illegals in to ‘do jobs Americans won’t’, our government has passed the narrative to condition people that those who broke the laws to come here deserve to stay here.
The federal government, especially under Obama’s administration has knowingly allowed people who do not care about America’s laws and sovereignty to enter- this includes known terrorists. To allow millions of people a simpler ‘pathway’ to citizenship who have no allegiance, which in turn would allow these millions to vote in elections, not even bothering to learn the important and vital roles of our government is in one word- insane.
The system is not broken. I can’t make that any clearer if I shouted at the top of my lungs. The immigration laws and system in place are NOT BROKEN. I am an example of the system which works. The system is in place to ensure a strong desire for the immigrant to become an American, in the words of President Theodore Roosevelt who said, “In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American…There can be no divided allegiance here… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”
Immigrants must learn about the laws, and enough of the history and founding, so one has a clear understanding of America’s unique government system which until now has kept Americans more free than any other society on the face of the earth. The freedoms are the very reason that more people have immigrated to America. We have immigration laws which our Federal government has not enforced and has enabled illegal behavior and a dependency on government for millions for the past 3 plus decades. Both sides of the political aisle are using illegals for votes. And in doing so, they are breaking their oaths to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, and destroying this country.
While our military is fighting for other people’s freedoms on the other side of the world, people in America are handing over their freedoms willingly. I find it an incredible affront as well that this past Thanksgiving, Obama chose to spend his time visiting activists supporting illegals instead of spending the time as past presidents have, with our troops who are away from their families. Imagine. Spending time with those who believe they are entitled, instead of those who are putting their lives on the line defending.
There used to be a saying, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free. I know this used to be a common saying for certain behavior, but it works in this case as well. Except for the fact that now our federal government is on the verge of giving away the whole cow, not just the milk.
