It’s About Freedom of Speech. Period.

Freedom_of_Speech.Bustling around the kitchen making my beloved chocolate truffles (they really are scrumptious) and having forgotten to label this batch, I decided to taste it to determine the flavor. Big mistake–it was root beer flavor. I love caramel, nuts, peppermint, and chocolate, but not chocolate-flavored root beer!

Through the years, my friends come in many “flavors”, too.  They come in all shapes, sizes, personalities, and sexual orientation.  We have loved and accepted each other as we are, despite our differences and in spite of our difference of opinion on homosexuality.   Our conversations cover many topics and we don’t agree on everything.  As adults, we’ve agreed to disagree.

Duck Dynasty appears to be a family-oriented program on television that is immensely popular amongst the mainstream Americans.  I would suspect their popularity is due because their values represent the vast majority of Americans.

The mainstream media has a bad habit of lambasting any individual who speaks openly for or against a topic that goes against their own thought process – in this instance, homosexuality.

In my opinion homophobia is a ridiculous term. Millions of Americans do not agree with homosexuality therefore the word of the day is, homodissent.

Has the politically correct (sic) become so entrapped in their quagmire they are blinded by their own hypocrisy?  It seems some believe in freedom and truth for all Americans–unless what we believe is of the Christian conservative persuasion.

Phil Robertson is entitled to his own opinion, just as every other American, and we don’t all have to agree.  I personally agree with his comment; however if that’s what another adult wants to do, it’s their choice.

To force every American to follow along without expressing a differing viewpoint is representative of a repressive society.   Is it okay to allow others to speak for me as I am forced to stay silent on issues that are important to me? Unequivocally, NO!

The media and the far left do not represent all Americans, and they would love people to be fearful of speaking out when it pertains to conservative values.  The media strives to bully people into staying silent – no more.

Dan Savage, in my opinion, is a despicable human being.  Not because he’s homosexual, but because of how he is a clear example of how the left blatantly ignores atrocious behavior from their own lackey.  During the election of 2012, Rick Santorum stated his views on homosexual behavior, and Savage decided to show his “tolerance” by having Santorum Google-bombed by manipulating search engine algorithms to produce a neologism in which the “Santorum” would be publicly and vulgarly redefined.

Why wasn’t he charged with cyber bullying?  A Christian conservative pulling the same stunt would be in jail at this moment.  Why is Dan Savage still allowed to threaten people?  His other preposterous antic involved licking doorknobs to spread his germs to then-presidential candidate Gary Bauer because of his anti-homosexual comments.  Savage is in dire need of help; licking doorknobs is not normal behavior.

Like it or not, I am a conservative Christian woman who personally believes homosexuality behavior is wrong, and surprisingly, my homosexual friends agree with me.  They believe they are just trapped in that lifestyle and need help.

Americans, speak up for what you believe in and do not be afraid.

Just for the record, I’ve only seen Duck Dynasty for about 15 minutes on YouTube, so whether the show remains on TV is irrelevant to me.  What is relevant is that people, all people, are allowed to speak freely.

Barbara Cook

Barbara J. Cook (Cookie) is enjoying living in the panhandle of Florida educating special needs children in a middle school (ask her about it sometime!). In order to de-stress, Barbara runs, reads, and writes, and yes, she cooks too: http://recipesbycooki.blogspot.com/ (that's another reason she runs!) She lives with her Mr. Cookie and chickens, dogs, cats and various others. Growing up in Europe as a child and spending several years as a military wife, Cookie learned to appreciate and respect diversity in people choosing to live by the phrase, agree to disagree. What is important to Cookie is family, faith, and fun. Cookie is involved in PolitiChicks because she says 'if we don't, who will?'
