Sen. Ted Cruz: Champion of the People

As I write this, I am listening to Senator Ted Cruz speaking. I am also on Twitter seeing, and tweeting #MakeDCListen and #DefundObamacare. It is 2:07 Wednesday morning, September 25th and Senator Cruz and a little handful of others have been on the Senate floor talking about the damage Obamacare will do to America since approximately 2:30 Tuesday afternoon.
I may still have much to learn about American politics, but I am so proud of Senator Cruz and Senator Mike Lee for what they have been doing today. This to me is what makes politics so exciting.
While the most recent Rasmussen Poll shows a slight increase in those who think Obamacare will be good for America, 51% still believe it will be bad for Americans and 11% believe it will not change anything. What is incredible about this filibuster is the amount of common sense and real facts that Cruz, Lee and others have been saying all evening. They are speaking for their constituents and for We the People.
The fact is that Senator Harry Reid and others have said that this will lead to a single payer system, and that Obama has said the same, meaning that eventually private insurance companies will be abolished and the whole health system will be government run. That, for those who still do not believe that Obamacare is different from such government systems as exist in Canada and the UK among other nations, proves that this will become socialized “care” and one only has to look at socialized systems to know they don’t work.
They have talked about how damaging this is and will be to small businesses that will have to pay fines, cut hours or fire employees because they can’t afford to pay for healthcare. They talked about people’s frustrations with the idea of the IRS being in charge of implementing health ‘care’, especially when so many scandals have surrounded the agency in the past few months.
For every argument based on emotion that was brought up by Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Tim Kaine, Senator Cruz responded with grace and facts. Like the fact that if those bureaucrats in Washington think Obamacare is such a great thing for the people, then all Senators, federal employees and Congress ought to sign up for it. If Obamacare is such a great thing for all Americans, why are so many groups, mostly Democrat supporters receiving waivers? They also brought up the fact that those early champions of Obamacare, the unions, have seen already the damage being done to businesses and have called it a nightmare. They didn’t forget either how many people’s costs will rise for private insurance and those who opt out will have to pay fines.
Face it; and take it from someone who came from a country with socialized health care, Obamacare is not good for America. Americans have resisted tyranny ever since they fought to free themselves from British rule. America has resisted socialism and communism, and because of their resistance, America has remained the best nation for everything from education to health care. These are quickly slipping away as more government has intruded into what was never meant for the federal government to be in control of.
Senator Cruz knows how great America has been, recognizes the damage that such a huge industry take over by the federal government would do. He has argued his case before the American people tonight, and as I close this article, it is now 3:33 AM. Senator Cruz and Senator Lee are still going, because they are Champions of the American people. I hope Americans realize this, and continue to call their Senators and demand them to #DefundObamacare.
Thank you Senator Cruz for your love of this country and your willingness to stand against even many in your own party on behalf of the people, this American is grateful.
