There’s a new hand symbol that’s taking the world by storm. And no, it’s not “V for Victory”. Avatars and memes of the symbol are exploding across social media, including Facebook and Twitter. The Turkish Prime Minister used the symbol at a rally, and supporters from New York to Malaysia have adopted it to show their solidarity with deposed President Morsi and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.
The image — a black hand, with four fingers raised and the thumb drawn across the palm — is being called “R4bia”. It’s a reference to the Rabaa Al-Adawiya Mosque, the Cairo site of a pro-Brotherhood sit-in that ended in a violent confrontation with the Egyptian Security Force.
The Turkish-based R4bia.com website calls the use of the hand symbol, “the birth of a new movement for freedom and justice”.
What does it stand for? As explained on the website:
What is R4BIA?
R4BIA is a symbol of freedom
R4BIA is the birth of a new movement for freedom and justice
R4BIA is the birth of a new world
R4BIA is the return of Muslims to world stage
R4BIA means justice, freedom and conscience
R4BIA is the place where the so-called values of the West collapsed
R4BIA means the Egyptian heroes who became free by dying
R4BIA is Egypt, Syria, Palestine and the whole geography of Islam
R4BIA is the name of those who wake all the Islamic world with their death
R4BIA is the place of people who show the death is a revival
Want to know the power of this hand gesture? The “four finger salute”, being used by supporters and members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, is already a terrifying symbol to brutalized Copts. According to Persecution.Org, “For Christians…it has become a symbol that evokes fear and a sign of coming violence…”
There is a one million Muslim march on Washington D.C., disgustingly planned on 9/11. According to The American Muslim Political Action Committee, the march is an effort to “demand that our civil rights be protected by our government”.
To counter the Muslim protest, a Facebook page has been created to coordinate “2 Million Bikers to DC” on the same date. Their stated purpose is: ”To honor those who were killed on 9/11 and our armed forces who fought those who precipitated this attack!”
(Someone must see the irony in this, as one group marches claiming to be “victims” while another group seeks to honor the “true victims”.)
It will be interesting to see how many of the Muslim marchers raise their hands in the “four finger salute” in support of Morsi and the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, who are determined in their quest to purge Egypt of the Coptic Christian.
As interesting as that might be to observe, it would be infinitely more interesting to see two million bikers lift up their hands together in solidarity and give the Muslim marchers their own version of a one-fingered gesture. (One can dream…)
