Rage Against the Media Rally in Los Angeles

On Saturday, August 17, Los Angeles will hear the other side of the story with the Rage Against the Media rally.
The protest is being held at the foot of the Federal Building from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Karen Siegemund, creator and director of RATM, has lined up a major list of speakers: Tony Katz, Kira Davis, Dwight Schultz, Ann-Marie Murrell, Mark Isler, David Spady, Gary Graham, Eric Galub, Kender MacGowen and Andrew Marcus. Author/comedian Evan Sayet and the Gateway Pundit’s Jim Hoft will be presenters.
I spoke to Dr. Karen Siegemund about what she’s hoping to gain from the rally, as well as why she has donated such a large part of her life toward fighting the mainstream media.
A-M: What’s the objective of this rally?
KS: First, we hope to create a greater awareness of how duped we all are by the media. The journalists on whom we rely for our information are utterly unethical in their agenda-driven reporting, and sadly are exceedingly effective at crafting an entirely false “reality” that too many simply believe. By holding a rally in a visible location, we hope to at least spark skepticism in passers-by about the truth of what they’re being told; we will be posting signs along Wilshire that refer to specific issues about which they have been lying, or which they have chosen to simply hide from us. The extent to which the media is willing to lie to the people in order to protect the powerful is simply beyond comprehension – people need to be made aware of this, and that the media does not have our best interest at heart.
We also have hope that those who come to this event have a terrific time! We expect that they all will inform and inspire, even as they entertain. Mostly, though, we aim to empower. We hope that everybody attending this event will leave feeling motivated and empowered to help this fight for honest media. Rallies are only part of what we do – empowering citizen activists is our main effort, and finding strategies for achieving responsible, honest, objective media is the ultimate goal.
A-M: It’s been extremely frustrating for all of us on the Right to get our message out to the people. While we were busy being the “Silent Majority” the Left became the only voice anyone hears.
KS: It has become abundantly clear that our mainstream media is doing all it can to further the leftist agenda and to ridicule, slander and silence the alternative, conservative voice. Regardless of our message, our messaging, the quality of our candidates and efforts at campaigning, as long as the media has a stranglehold on the message, our efforts are greatly impeded.
Ronald Reagan famously said “the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” We all know this is true; the reason for these liberal friends being so misinformed is, in large part, due to the media, which creates a false “reality” in their determination to advance progressivism. And sadly, they are effective. These same liberal friends believe that all the ills we are suffer are due to George Bush, that Republicans are in the way of progress, that Obama is the Messiah, that the Tea Party is a collection of racist haters, that whatever happened in Benghazi was unfortunate but that far worse happened under George Bush, that George Zimmerman killed an innocent young boy just out for Iced Tea, that Obamacare will cure all the flaws of a greedy insurance system and will provide us all with superior health care, that Joe Biden is an intellectual titan while Sarah Palin is an immoral ignoramus who incites violence, that government programs solve problems and private enterprise is the root of all evil, that, in short, Republicans are evil and Democrats are the saviors of the world.
A-M: Of course the Left claims they are “fair and balanced” and Fox News is the evil one.
KS: I know people who actually believe that. And until we combat this deliberately fabricated web of misinformation that is crafted every single day with the sole purpose of ensuring that only one voice is heard, until we claw our way to journalism that is objective and even-handed, there is no way that conservative causes, policies or candidates will be able to succeed.
Rage Against the Media is fighting to achieve honest and objective reporting. We do this through a number of tactics, one of which is staging protests and rallies. In addition to our inspiring roster of speakers, we will be joined by the live band “The Blacklist”.
We are also very excited about presenting a number of awards!
