Is This “Imminent Terror Threat” Real…or is it “Wag The Dog”?

Excuse me if I sound skeptical, but why did we suddenly need to close 22 of our Embassies on Friday? According to reports, there was serious terrorist chatter, the likes of which had not been heard since before the first 9/11 attacks.
The media was in a frenzy. Every news outlet was leading with the story, emphasizing the fact that this was “a potential threat occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula”. Americans were being warned that there was the possibility that there could be attacks on transit systems or tourist infrastructure. Ok…and isn’t that always a threat?
One voice of reason stated an obvious but true fact. Retired General Jack Keane said that Al Qaeda has been emboldened and is trying to build off the Benghazi attack. “When they sense weakness they attack”, he said. “They believe that we are pulling back, and they were stunned…that we did not come back at them immediately after that attack.”
Not come back at them??! We didn’t even acknowledge that it WAS an attack! General Keane is correct, they did sense weakness and surrender and they were correct in doing so. The Obama administration has shown nothing but weakness throughout the entire Middle East region. Everywhere you look it is a disaster. Libya, Syria, Iran and let’s not forget the fireworks going on in Egypt. Obama has done nothing but add fuel to an already smoldering fire and now that fire is blazing out of control.
In my opinion the closure of 22 embassies is a bad idea. What does that telegraph to our enemy? Fear. It shows that we are afraid of them and will tuck our tails between our legs and cower. This is just one more knee-jerk reaction from the Obama team that allows Al Qaeda to get the upper hand. They must laugh at us. We, who were once the strongest, toughest country on earth have now been reduced to the “Great and Powerful Oz” who is nothing but a trembling figure behind a curtain. Thanks a lot Obama.
Now the closure of the embassies has been extended until at least August 10th “out of an abundance of caution.” Where was that caution last September 11th when the State Department had been begged by Ambassador Stevens to send help and support?
This whole “crisis” just doesn’t sound real to me. Why all of a sudden are the American people being briefed as though they needed to be aware of this? This administration goes to great lengths to keep information FROM us, not give it TO us. Perhaps they want to justify the NSA’s snooping activities and convince us that they really “need” to spy on us to find out about these plots? Maybe they need a diversion from the information about Benghazi that came out this week. If they sound an alarm about an imminent terror attack, maybe it will shift our attention.
I hope and pray that nothing does happen from this scare, but it just all seems too convenient. Everyone is being so efficient, trying to prove to the American people that they really are on top of everything. If, God forbid, something does happen, you know that they will take credit for being out front and warning everyone. If it doesn’t, they will tout the NSA’s spying activities as the reason it was thwarted.
It’s very sad that we have become so cynical when it comes to our government, but what else can we do? We have been lied to and made to look like fools over and over again. I’m just afraid that one day there really will be an imminent disaster, but like the boy who cried “wolf” too many times, we will ignore what he says and it will be too late.
