Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of watching Representative Trey Gowdy will understand the correlation between his kind of “no holds bar” stance and that of Clint Eastwood’s character Harry Callahan in the Dirty Harry movies. Like Eastwood, Gowdy is no nonsense and has no problem telling you what he thinks when he is in action! A former state and federal prosecutor, Trey Gowdy is determined to represent the people who elected him to the 4th congressional district seat of South Carolina and in my opinion he is most certainly making the people of South Carolina proud!
“It’s a question of methods. Everybody wants results, but nobody wants to do what they have to do to get them done.”- Dirty Harry
Trey Gowdy has been a critic of the handling of several scandals by the Obama administration including Benghazi. Gowdy during the House Oversight Committee’s questioning of whistleblower Gregory Hicks asked what he felt when he watched Ambassador Susan Rice come on 5 (five) Sunday talk shows and blame the whole attack on a YouTube video. Hick’s response was “my jaw dropped.”
Gowdy in usual form also had this to say when during these same hearings his Democratic counterparts had the audacity to suggest it was the Republican’s fault that the consulate did not have the proper security due to austerity cuts they (Republicans) voted for:
“You had money for condom demonstrations, you had money for culinary diplomacy, you had money to buy electric vehicles in Germany, but you didn’t have the money to upgrade the security specifications in Benghazi?” Gowdy goes on to remind Democrats “Their budget has gone up exponentially since the Republicans took over.”
In his response to the now infamous response given by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “what difference at this point does it make”, Gowdy came back with a pithy response:
“It always matters whether or not you can trust your government…it most assuredly matters to the family and friends of the four deceased.
[T]he media does have an oversight role, they’re supposed to, but Congress also has an oversight role.”
“You’ve got to ask yourself one question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?” Dirty Harry
Fast and Furious
Representative Gowdy has been one of the few in Government who has kept Fast and Furious in the priority of Congress. Along with Darrell Issa (R-Ca.) and Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), Gowdy has his sights set on finding out why those responsible for Fast and Furious are still employed and maintain their government payroll checks. Gowdy also is doing everything he can to hold DOJ chief Eric Holder responsible for his part in the debacle that caused countless of innocent deaths including 2 American agents and why other than heavily redacted documents, Holder and his DOJ refuse to send requested information time and time again. In one of the Oversight committee hearings Gowdy stated:
Congress has a constitutional responsibility to exercise oversight over the Executive Branch, and for more than a year we’ve been attempting to fulfill that with respect to the Justice Department’s “Fast and Furious” scandal.
Yet Justice — despite repeated requests for documents, multiple appearances before various committees and more than ample time — has failed to answer fundamental questions about this ill-conceived, ill-executed firearms operation.
Congress’ investigation has gone on for more than a year and a half, yet Justice has only complied with 12 of our 22 subpoena requests for documents. The American people deserve answers; Congress deserves the information we asked for.
What I see Trey Gowdy accomplishes in his communications to his fellow political colleagues is he takes his argument as scenarios of what would happen if an average citizen ignores requests or lies in front of law makers. Clearly his intent is to make a common sense approach to find the answers of why the most important and powerful law enforcement officer of the nation refuses to abide by his own laws.
In his motion filed in the House in the first week of May, Gowdy seeks to drop funding of the Department of Justice employees by $1 Million dollars and that motion passed the House. Gowdy stated in his speech to the madam speaker this for American citizens, too: “For those watching at home, what would happen to them if they ignored a summons for jury duty? What would happen for them if they ignored a grand jury subpoena? What would happen if a committee of Congress demanded documents [from them] and they summarily refused to cooperate?”
“It’s a question of methods. Everybody wants results, but nobody wants to do what they have to do to get them done.” Dirty Harry
On the James Rosen/AP attacks by the DOJ
“Is it not too much to ask to get the Attorney General to give us straight answers when in front of Congress?” That is what Gowdy stated in a recent interview on Fox News when discussing the overreach of the DOJ to bring criminal charges against Fox News White House chief correspondent James Rosen to justify wiretapping his cell phone, his parent’s cell phone and those of Fox News (not including the attacks on AP). Clearly there is an issue of transparency and trust of the American people towards this administration. What we are witnessing is the small snippet of the Nixon tactics on steroids whether it’s the enemies list or cover up of a scandal.
It would appear that Eric Holder feels as though the rules simply do not apply to him and continues to thumb his nose at anyone who asks for the truth.
“Go ahead…make my day!” Dirty Harry
Lois Lerner as we have now been told by recent coverage on the IRS targeting of conservative groups and individuals had not only knowledge of the targeting but was involved in the act despite her now infamous opening statement pleading innocence of any wrong doing before pleading the 5th. Gowdy, a seasoned prosecutor, became furious that Lerner was allowed to make her opinion known in an opening statement and then hide behind protection stated in a Fox News article:
“If you could do it the way she wants to do it, then every defendant would come, say ‘I didn’t rob the bank, and I’m not going to answer the prosecutor’s questions,'” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., told Fox News. “So we’d all in life like to get out our version without having to answer anyone else’s questions. It’s just not fair. And I don’t think it’s legal.”
Gowdy is merely pointing out that an average citizen in a court of law would not be able to make an opening statement of innocence and then please the 5th and get away with that response. Gowdy truly represents the people of South Carolina and despite being targeted by liberal media as an “extremist” we should all stand up and applaud Gowdy’s position because he is one of the few elected officials who are doing the job the people elected him for. He has not forgotten who put him in his position and that is refreshing to see. Too many elected officials have forgotten. I’m glad Trey Gowdy reminds us of what someone with the best interest of the people sounds, looks and acts like. Trey Gowdy is a truth seeker. No matter what side of the political fence you stand on, it should be important that your representative does just that…represent you!
Rep. Gowdy is pushing for the evisceration of the IRS and implementation of the fair/flat tax and that my friends would be the blessing to come out of this scandal. As we have heard in news reports the IRS has targeted small businesses, families involved in adoptions as well as the conservative and Christian citizens of the U.S. and that should make everyone furious!
The facts are clear and that this administration, despite all the scandals are standing bold with arrogance and “in your face” dismissal of the importance of what we are seeing unfolding before our eyes. There is no excuse in why we are not seeing people lose their jobs and/or face serious jail time for these grievances.
While this article is just a small portion of examples of why Trey Gowdy is a true patriot and a true representative of the people of South Carolina, I encourage everyone to visit his Government website and there you will find further examples of why Trey Gowdy is our own Harry Callahan. Seeker of truth and justice plus a huge heaping of pithy on the side!
