Calling Out the Catholics on Phony Pelosi

PlasticPelosiPC1As a Conservative Woman, I am not a fan of Nancy Pelosi’s. I take particular issue with the things she’s got away with. Memorable stuff like expecting the Air Force to shuttle her about (and her ‘intermediaries’ being outraged and screaming at officials when flights were unavailable), her ‘special’ Visa IPO deal, her husband’s land dealings and everyone’s favorite, “But we have to pass the [health care] bill so that you can find out what’s in it….”

In July 2012, she claimed that Obamacare would lower everyone’s rates. Conservatives balked, knowing there isn’t an Obama anything that lowers costs! Earlier this month, a reporter from The Weekly Standard reminded her of the promise she had made. The former Speaker countered with, “I don’t remember saying that everybody in the country would have a lower premium.” I suppose the 73-year-old could blame dementia, but it wouldn’t fly, there’s loads of Sunday morning interview videos. And The Weekly Standard’s John McCormack was just getting started. June was not going to be a great month for the Plastic One.

Fast forward to June 13th at a press conference. The House Democratic leader ran off at the mouth about Republicans not spending enough money on food stamps and said “They’re taking the food out of the mouths of babies.” Aside from the fact that Americans spend more than $80 billion each year on food stamps, and the country has no idea where the money is going or how it is spent, that wasn’t the ironic thing. That happened when Pelosi expressed her anger at a bill that would stop abortion after 20 weeks gestation, which is common even in most liberal European countries.

McCormack asked, “So the question I have for you is what is the moral difference between what Dr. Gosnell did to a baby born alive at 23 weeks and aborting her moments before birth?” First Pelosi took the standard liberal approach by using Alinsky 101, “Attack, attack, attack from all sides, never giving the reeling organization a chance to rest, regroup, recover and re-strategize.” She demeaned him, hard, but he wasn’t about to back off. She finally pulled this bizarre comment from somewhere, “…as a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this. I don’t think it should have anything to do with politics.” Huh? Wait…no…WHAT? She was done and wasn’t going to answer the question. There’s an obvious disconnect between rattling on about taking food from babies and aborting a child that is viable in many cases. The woman just doesn’t get the big picture here! The House seems to get it, they voted 228 to 196 in favor of the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act“.

According to polls, most people don’t think abortion that far into a pregnancy is acceptable unless there’s a clear cut danger to the mother’s life. The practice of late term abortion is far more prevalent than people realize. When I got pregnant with my last child after being diagnosed with a serious and incurable disease, I was told that I likely wouldn’t survive the pregnancy. With seven young children, we had to consider the situation and were referred to a counselor at the Catholic hospital. We quickly decided to take our chances (which by God’s grace was obviously the right choice 9 years later!) and went to leave. The counselor stopped me and said, “If you change your mind anytime until the day before birth or before labor starts, just let me know and I’ll refer you out.” Just like that. No big deal-we do this everyday…

I never thought much about why Pelosi hasn’t been excommunicated. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I often wonder why Harry Reid hasn’t been excommunicated. With all of the scandals and dirty deals he’s been involved in, Harry is just icky! The idea that he was a Sunday School teacher and actually does the things he’s done in Washington just blows my mind. I guess that’s how a lot of Catholics feel about Queen Nancy Do-No-Wrong. Even her precious progressive base is turning on her! On Saturday, she spoke at an annual gathering of progressives who get together to share ideas about how they can use technology to influence the public (more Alinsky, anyone?). Pelosi was heckled with cries of “Protect the First Amendment”, “Secrets and lies” and “No secret courts”. When she said that Edward Snowden was a criminal for sharing the illegal actions of the NSA, the crowd yelled, “Leave him alone” and “You suck!”

After her bizarre abortion comments, the whole excommunication thing was on my mind. As much as I dislike it, I know the reasons why Reid is still a member of my Church. What really shocked me about Pelosi was finding out that in 2009, during her taxpayer funded trip to the Vatican, Pope Benedict gave her an up close and personal ‘pre-excommunitcation’ warning if she didn’t repent. He even refused to pose with her for a photo! You would think this ‘ardent Catholic’ would take a hint, but she continues to spit in the face of the Catholic Church and God by protecting the legality of late-term abortions. While I believe there should be limits on earlier abortions, my primary concern is stopping these heinous legal murders. But hey, If she can ignore the Pope, nothing will phase her. Thankfully, another man of God has made a valiant attempt.

Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life published an open letter to Mrs. Pelosi about what he called her betrayal and misrepresentation of the Catholic Church. What inspired words! Maybe you remember laws that stated a woman must view an ultrasound of her baby prior to aborting it, taking away the simplicity of ‘out of sight, out of mind’? I thought maybe that was the path she chose to take, just don’t look at the reality. After reading Father Pavone’s letter, I learned that wasn’t the case. He wrote, “Several years ago, we visited your office with the diagrams of dismemberment abortion at 23 weeks, and asked the simple question, “When you say the word ‘abortion,’ is this what you mean?” I choose not to look at those photos, but after eight children and three grandchildren, I know exactly what is being done. She’s a mom, but apparently that kicking, hiccuping, likely viable baby is still disposable trash to her.

In the remainder of his letter, Father Pavone reminds Pelosi that she is a public servant. If the public wants an answer, why should she be allowed to refuse? “In what way is this refusal to address an issue of such national importance consistent with the leadership role you are supposed to be exercising,” asked the Father. “Public servants are supposed to be able to tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public. Apparently, you can’t. Otherwise, you would have been able to explain the difference between a legal medical procedure that kills a baby inside the womb and an act of murder — for which Dr. Gosnell is now serving life sentences — for killing the same baby outside the womb.” He went on to write, “Whatever Catholic faith you claim to respect and practice, it is not the faith that the Catholic Church teaches. And I speak for countless Catholics when I say that it’s time for you to stop speaking as if it were.”

I suppose as a Mormon I don’t have much right to ask anything of the Catholic Church, but I do refer to myself as ‘LDS Light’, so I’ll take the chance. What gives? Pope Francis…Your Holiness, maybe you could call Pope Benedict and continue on where he left off? Is this similar to what the LDS Church is doing with Reid, keeping politics out of Church? I’ll admit I would like to believe what they say, but there’s the whole Prop. 8 thing with the LDS Church and the Catholic Church is often involved in politics (not saying they’re wrong, but it can’t be both ways). They can’t possibly be worried about losing too many members if they excommunicate her, they are far too large for it to make a dent! Can Catholics demand an answer from the Pope? I’d love to see Nancy Pelosi just step down already. If this month has been any indication of her political future (and how out of touch she is with the America people), she may end up going out in shame…er, maybe ‘disgrace’ is a more adequate word? I’d love to see some action on this by the Catholic Big Guys, but I’m afraid some things are just hopeless.

“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3).

Please note that on the bottom of Father Pevone’s letter, there is a form to fill out stating you agree with him. A copy will be sent directly to Nancy Pelosi. Demand answers from your employees, the government.
