Poor, Sad Nancy Pelosi

pelosiHouse minority leader Nancy Pelosi announced that due to sequestration she will not be able to visit the troops on Mother’s Day. I know she must be devastated that a piece of legislation that she was absolutely against has prevented her from visiting this nation’s bravest citizens.  If it weren’t for the Republicans and their partisan bill, none of this would have happened.  Now, thanks to these draconian cuts, former Speaker Pelosi is unable to visit our troops on her modest income.

Sorry, I can’t continue to even try to make former Speaker Pelosi seem like a sympathetic soul in this case. There is absolutely no reason why she cannot visit the troops this year considering the fact that government spending will continue to increase in spite of the sequestration.  But if this truly was a legitimate concern, maybe the money that was sent to Egypt and the Syrian rebels could have been put to better use in the form of plane tickets, lodging, and other expenses for Pelosi and her delegation.

I know this might sound outrageous but she probably could have averted this problem if she decided to help present and pass a budget that would have allotted for such travels.  It would have been nice if she had persuaded Sen. Harry Reid to vote on a budget for a change as well.  After all, it’s been only 1,473 days and counting since we’ve had a federal budget.  I know our economy has been going fantastic, but maybe by having a budget she wouldn’t have never had to worry about sequestration ruining Mother’s Day for so many of our troops.

Here’s a novel idea, former Speaker Pelosi could have followed Rand Paul’s lead and cut her office budget.  That way she might have been able to scrape together a few dollars in order to make this trip.  I know she’s a very busy woman being the House minority leader, but she might actually find that she can run her office more efficiently without jeopardizing her fine work serving her constituents. Who knows, maybe the other members of the House of Representatives will be inspired by her lead and they too will reduce inefficiencies in their offices.  Think of how much money could be allotted for an upcoming Father’s Day trip to visit the troops in June?

Oh, who am I kidding?  All of this makes too much sense and we know that for some reason this will never work.  We can only hope that former Speaker Pelosi will be able to visit our troops next Mother’s day.  In the meantime, I hope she has at least sent them a mother’s day card or maybe even recorded a video message that they’ll be able to see on Sunday.  If not, I hope they don’t feel too discouraged.  She truly has them all in her heart and she feels absolutely terrible that she won’t be able to see them this year.  Well, better luck next year.  We all know she meant well and maybe she’ll get it right next time.

Happy Mother’s Day.
