Being Right on the Left Coast

ocean-flagIt was an ordinary day and I was doing my usual perusing at my local bookstore in the Current Affairs section when a teenager, barely old enough to vote, picks up a Mark Levin book and says, “Who buys this trash?” My natural instinct was to strike up a conversation with him.   Anyone who would make such a strongly opinionated (and ignorant) remark deserved at least an attempt to open his eyes with facts and logic. And if he was so fortunate, maybe I actually could help open the proverbial floodgates of his naive and atypical rebellious mind, allowing him to see his rhetoric for what it was worth. But after a quick assessment I opted not to bother.

You see, being a Los Angeles Native I have been living among such Leftist-thinking ideologues my entire life.  There have been times that I entertained myself with an almost inevitable confrontational scenario in the past to no avail. I have learned that more often than not, when someone is that combative with his assumptive attitude towards anything even remotely Republican or Conservative in nature, that person is, quite frankly, a lost cause.

The most frustrating thing I witness on an almost daily basis is people who are stuck in their own closed off and self-righteous lifestyles. Their minds are filled with years of public school indoctrination, brainwashing from the countless movies, television shows and magazines they have absorbed within Pop Culture’s obsession with popularity and provocative tales throughout the years. Throw in the Internet and all of the clueless left- leaning blogs and random bogus “news sites”, which they absorb like sponges sucking up all the dirt and debris that enter their pores. Because of course, if you read or hear about it, it must be true.

In a sense it is not the least bit surprising to see how half of America has gotten where they are today. In part, what it boils down to is an inability to decipher between fact and opinion. A leftist-thinking person’s knee jerk response might be utter something to the effect of, “What makes you think that what you believe is ‘truth’ and what I believe in is a lie?” My answer to them would be because I have and continue to do my due diligence and I base my beliefs on substance and reason. I do not hold any talking heads, radio personalities, or politicians and the like on a pedestal. I question the things I hear and see and never automatically file it away as the final word (something the Left seems to do quite effortlessly).  A total and complete suspension of reality and knowledge only leads them down a dangerous fantasy that feeds their own needs and purpose. Despite their tendency to preach love and peace…e.g. we must to coexist.

I was once a Liberal and have grown up around Leftist-thinking people my entire life; therefore I know where they are coming from.  In my first Presidential Election I voted for Bill Clinton. Although the thought of this both humors and disgusts me now, I am very proud to say that I realized where my standards and values really fit in shortly after that election despite being surrounded by so many Leftist thinkers.  I was in my mid-twenties at the time and this was long before the Internet, so I had to investigate and learn for myself in ways that now considered “old fashioned”, perusing bookstores and public libraries. This only reconfirmed not only where I stood but also what made complete sense to me. I have always had a thirst for knowledge and being a registered Democrat just did not sit right with me. I had too many unanswered and conflicting questions.

So, it was then that my real journey began. I learned more and more about the fundamental differences between voting Democrat verses Republican and quickly realized that what resonated with me was a resounding revelation:  I am a Republican!

Since then I have never looked back. I learned about the great President Ronald Reagan and a bit about U.S. History and have voted with the elephant party on every single election, humbly placing the “I Voted” sticker on my shirt with every visit to my polling place.  Basically, I came to my Republican conclusion because of a combination of my intellectual curiosity mixed with my ability to see clearly with logic and reasoning.  It was also a matter of simply recognizing exactly where my values and beliefs lay. I am proud to say that I am getting more conservative politically as I become wiser and more grounded.

At this point I have become quite disappointed, if not downright furious, about how the GOP currently conducts itself with its lack of true leadership and strength and commitment. It is has removed itself from the Party of Reagan in more ways than one.

Therefore what takes precedence with me, along with millions of other concerned citizens across these United States, is honoring what our country was founded on and fully comprehending that we have moved way past any political talking points and divisions.  Instead, we understand we have to do whatever it takes to resuscitate our beloved America with the determination that our fore fathers set forth. So, it is with my passion, tenacity, and pro-active stance that I guarantee you one thing: I will forever be a pro-active red-blooded, All-American patriotic conservative woman and that will never change.
