The Human Trafficking Epidemic in the U.S.

Tony Nassif has been a consultant to both President George W. Bush and Barack Obama regarding the prevalence of human trafficking in America. Nassif believes this is an issue that needs to cross political party lines in order to stop the abuse. This week I had the privelege of hearing this Christian speaker at the La Crescenta Valley Republican Women Federated monthly luncheon.
Mr. Nassif became involved with preventing human trafficking after writing a fictional screenplay about the subject. Little did he know the words that he put to paper weren’t fictional at all. He told about a vision he had of Jesus Christ bending down and telling him, “Millions of souls are at risk and are left in the balance.” Soon after, Nassif began working with groups who were helping at-risk individuals.
“Human trafficking is the biggest moneymaker other than drugs”, Nassif said, “which is $100,000.00 per day.”
Nassif stated that in Los Angeles the #1 moneymaker is pornography. There are approximately 1.2 million reports of missing persons reported each year in the United States alone, with between 100,000 – 1 million ending up in the hands of human traffickers. Many of the children who are kidnapped are used either as mules for drugs, or in the sex trades. The ages of these children was once between 10 and 12, but now the age range is between ages 8 – 10, and some of these children are marketed to pedophiles.
Nassif explained that the perpetrators “break the soul” of the victims, making them believe their new “family culture” is with their captors and the buyers.
Mr. Nassif asked the group if we knew when and where human traffickers make most of their money. I I had heard a couple of years ago of hookers being scattered around golf courses during tournaments in tents, so I said “football” and he said “Yes–at the Super Bowl!”
Abductors come from countries all over the world; they beat and rape their victims to keep them in line. Nassir told a story of a mother whose son went missing in 1982. A gentleman from the CIA told her that the abduction was “organized” and she and her family received death threats. Ultimately they were reunited with their abducted child and are all together again– but they are in hiding.
This story ended well—but Mr. Nassif said when he hears about missing children or teenagers, the first thing he does is say a prayer for someone to find them.
Next, Nassif addressed our border problems and Mexican women who want to enter the U.S. to see their children. If they don’t have money to pay their “mules” (guides), they sell themselves. Along the Mexican border, you can see “rape trees”—sort of a ‘trophy case’ for rapists, in which they hang their victim’s underwear from branches.
Nassif emphasized that the American people need to be warned.
“We are called to defend the defenseless”, Nassif said, adding that if this country doesn’t change we will become a “vile cesspool”.
In closing, Nassif read from the Bible, Ezekiel 9: Then He said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!’
Tony also read the last paragraph in the Declaration of Independence:
”We therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, Conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
“There is going to be an accountability for this nature of evil,” he said. “The American people need to be warned.”
