The Gang of 8 and the Economic Opportunity Amnesty Plan
The Gang of 8 has released the so-called Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act. While it’s being praised as the end all to our immigration problems- sealing the border and solving what to do with those 11 plus millions of illegals already here, let’s look at how this latest monstrosity will impact America.
Jobs– Employers will have to pay the government up to $3,000 per full-time worker who receives Obama Care subsidies. According to Investors.com this immigration bill, as written, would provide a way to avoid fines by hiring newly legalized immigrants as full-time employees, since they wouldn’t be eligible for Obama Care for a decade or more. This will also hurt American’s jobs as employers shift citizen workers to part-time, which the law defines as fewer than 30 hours.
More welfare and social programs– Jim DeMint brought up the fact that American taxpayers are already paying into a bloated and wasteful welfare program which will only get worse millions of unauthorized immigrants will qualify for federal benefits as well.
Old and broken promises– Byron York nails it saying that Congress has passed a multitude of laws already, similar to what the Gang will propose yet we’re still talking instead of building the border fence and enforcing businesses comply with E-Verify. Those who wrote this bill estimate the entire process, from illegal to citizen, could take at least 18 years, yet none of them guarantee that Obama or the next presidential administration will bother to enforce their new law.
More money-This bill offers $50 million in taxpayer-funded assistance to help illegal immigrants file. How does Congress plan on monitoring who gets this money? Section 2106, beginning on page 131 says that the money ‘can be given to activist groups to support immigrants who need help “completing applications and petitions, including providing assistance in obtaining the requisite documents and supporting evidence … applying for any waivers for which applicants and qualifying family members may be eligible. Activists? Like who- CAIR or LaRaza?
Border no more secure than it is now– from pages 14-17 of the bill:
SEC. 4. SOUTHERN BORDER SECURITY COMMISSION.
(a) ESTABLISHMENT.—If Secretary certifies that the Department has not achieved effective control in all high risk border sectors during any fiscal year beginning before the date that is 5 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, not later than 60 days after the date of the certification there shall be established a commission to be known as the ‘‘Southern Border Security Commission’’ (referred to in this section as the ‘‘Commission’’). (ii) 1 shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the leader in the Senate of the other political party;
(C) 2 members who shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, of which—
(i) 1 shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the leader in the House of Representatives of the political party that is not the political party of the President; and
(ii) 1 shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the leader in the House of Representatives of the other political party; and
(D) 4 members, consisting of 1 member from each of the States along the Southern border, who shall be—
(i) the Governor of such State; or
(ii) appointed by the Governor of each such State.
(2) QUALIFICATION FOR APPOINTMENT.—appointed members of the Commission shall be distinguished individuals noted for their knowledge and experience in the field of border security at the Federal, State, or local level.
(3) TIME OF APPOINTMENT.—The appointments required by paragraph (1) shall be made not later than 60 days after the Secretary makes a certification described in subsection (a).
(4) CHAIR.—At the first meeting of the Commission, a majority of the members of the Commission present and voting shall elect the Chair of the Commission.
(5) VACANCIES.—Any vacancy of the Commission shall not affect its powers, but shall be filled in the manner in which the original appointment was made.
(6) RULES.—The Commission shall establish the rules and procedures of the Commission which shall require the approval of at least 6 members of the Commission.
(c) DUTIES.—The Commission’s primary responsibility shall be making recommendations to the President, the Secretary, and Congress on policies to achieve and maintain the border security goal specified in section 3(b) by achieving and maintaining (1) the capability to engage in, and to engage in, persistent surveillance in high risk border sectors along the Southern border; and (2) an effectiveness rate of 90 percent or higher in all high risk border sectors along the Southern border.
(d) REPORT.—Not later than 180 days after the end of the 5-year period described in subsection (a), the Commission shall submit to the President, the Secretary, and Congress a report setting forth specific recommendations for policies for achieving and maintaining the border security goals specified in subsection (c). The report shall include, at a minimum, recommendations for the personnel, infrastructure, technology, and other resources required to achieve and maintain an effectiveness rate of 90 percent or higher in all high risk border sectors
While all these new bureaucratic committees discuss how to implement committees, how many more will pour over the wide open border and how many more terrorists will possibly come through among them? Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley brought up this very thing up, making a connection between the pending immigration reform and the bombings at the Boston Marathon, the alleged perpetrators of which were Chechen immigrants. Pro “immigration” Liberals may believe Senator Grassley is playing politics with the terrorist attack on Boston, yet it is a legitimate concern and has been for years. Even ICE agent Chris Crane, the president of the National ICE Council has said, “This bill will put the public safety at risk without doubt…”
Let’s wrap this up in a nutshell. All of this, is that we have immigration laws which our Federal government has not enforced and has enabled illegal behavior of millions for the past 3 plus decades. They see an opportunity to use their desire for votes of illegals to grant permanent status through a so-called pathway. The republicans are using them to get the “Hispanic” vote, but they never will get them. The democrats are using them to get the “Hispanic” vote, and will get them.
Seriously, what is the point in creating new laws when the laws we already have in place are not enforced? This is a way to erase the fact that our government has been severely negligent in their duty to secure and enforce the laws of America- by making new laws, which out of ignorance, stupidity, greed, ambition and downright deception depending on the people voting on this, know full well that no one will obey this law any more than they have obeyed the ones already in place.
