April 23, 2013 a car bomb was detonated at the French Embassy in Tripoli, Libya. On September 11, 2012 the American Embassy in Benghazi, Libya was brutally attacked. The Tripoli attack comes on the heels of a televised Tahrir TV interview with a prominent Egyptian Muslim Cleric in which he speaks about the Boston bombings, his expectation of such events given the ‘over one million Muslims in the West’ and warning of similar events (hinting even to similarities with terror attacks such as Benghazi) not only against America, but also France and other non-Muslims.
A car bomb has exploded outside the French embassy in the Libyan capital Tripoli, wounding two French guards and several residents.
President Hollande (of France) said the attack had targeted “all countries in the international community engaged in the fight against terrorism“.
French embassies across northern Africa have been on high alert since France sent in troops to help fight an Islamist insurgency in Mali in January.
France, under Nicolas Sarkozy, was at the forefront of Nato-led air strikes in 2011 that helped rebel forces topple long-time Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Interviewer: “Today, we will be talking about the Boston bombings, which took place yesterday, during the marathon . . . What is your analysis of what happened?”
Cleric: “I do not know who carried out this attack, but if it was indeed the mujahideen, it was meant as a clear message to America and to the West.”
Interviewer: “You were close to Sheik Osama”
Cleric: “We were like one family. I am happy and proud to have been a friend of these brothers, but I cannot claim to have had the honor of being an Al-Qaeda member.”
“Over the past 30 years, there has been a qualitative leap in the war with America.” “Those courageous heroes have shifted the battle over to America’s own turf.”
“It is not just America. The Americans have passed their arrogance over to France. France which led the first Crusade, is now leading the war against Islam and the Muslims. They must taste the bitter retribution for their deeds. This is not a threat, but a warning of what might happen to them.”
“What brought France to Mali? Or America to Afghanistan and Iraq? France has accepted the banner of arrogance and enmity to Islam, so it will taste what it deserves.”
“I cannot be held responsible for over one million (Muslims) in the West, who were harmed by French and American policy.” “The (Westerners) are facing a deluge, and they will be destroyed.”
Cleric: “There is no doubt about it.”
“The US has completely collapsed, even if they are not hurrying to admit it. The American debt has reached how many trillions of dollars? They have a huge debt. Now poverty is spreading throughout America.”
“We say to the Western peoples: Force your stupid governments to refrain from supporting the tyrants. France’s intervention in Mali will not go unanswered. I don’t think it will.”
“With the utmost stupidity, France has accepted the banner of enmity (to Islam) – from the days of Sarkozy to Hollande. This stupidity will bring catastrophes upon them, just like it did upon America.”
“Although I am not from Al-Qaeda, I can say, as someone who has known these people, that the path of Al-Qaeda is the path of the Koran, which calls upon (Muslims) to wage Jihad against infidels who attach them, and intervene in their affairs. This is the path of Islam and the Koran, and not something invented by Osama Bin Laden. No, it was not invented by Osama or Ayman. It was sent down by Allah, and anyone who thinks he can defeat this path is delusional.”
Interviewer: “Who do you consider to be an infidel?”
Cleric: “Anyone who does not accept Islam.” “They are either original infidels, like the Jews and Christians, or apostates, like the secularists, liberals, Communists, or socialists.”
“Whoever does not accept Islam is an infidel. Allah said so, not me.”
According to excerpts from the State Department Daily Press Briefing on April 23, 2012 with Patrick Ventrell, Acting Deputy Spokesperson:
“..the United States condemns today’s attack on the French Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, and extends its condolences to all those who were hurt as a result of the bombing. France is one of our closest allies in promoting peace and development around the world…We look to the Libyan Government … to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.”
… the United States strongly condemns the actions that resulted in the death and injury of civilians and security personnel in Hawijah, Iraq. We regret that this violence took place before ongoing efforts to reach a peaceful resolution of the situation were given sufficient time to succeed.”
Regarding the 4/23/13 attack on French Embassy in Tripoli, Libya:
QUESTION: Are you helping the French in any way? Do you know who’s responsible? Do you have any information on this attack?
MR. VENTRELL: I don’t have any details on the perpetrators. We of course stand ready to assist our French ally, but I’m not aware that they’ve asked for any assistance at this time.
Regarding progress of investigations into the 9/11/12 attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya:
QUESTION: And then just because this gives us an opportunity to ask about Benghazi, the Secretary said last week on his hearing – in his hearing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee that you guys were making progress in bringing people to justice. Do you have any information on that progress? As far as I recall, nobody had been detained, arrested or otherwise targeted for involvement in that attack. Is that still valid?
MR. VENTRELL: Well, you know that from the President on down, we’ve been clear that we will seek justice, and again, this is a law enforcement channel, so I’d have to refer them to you. But the Secretary – his words stand for themselves.
QUESTION: Well, not – they don’t stand for themselves if he states there’s progress —
MR. VENTRELL: Again, I don’t have further information —
QUESTION: — and you don’t have any progress to report (inaudible).
MR. VENTRELL: I don’t have any further information to read out from this podium, but it remains an active goal of the United States.
QUESTION: So, seek you may, but you haven’t actually done anything; is that right?
MR. VENTRELL: I don’t have an update for you here today, Brad.
Current reports state that no person or organization is claiming responsibility for this terrorist bombing at this time. However, given the warning of Egyptian Cleric Murgan Salem, more terrorist attacks by Islamic-motivated individuals and groups against non-Muslims are expected.
