Woodward Draws Blood

For the first time in the four years of the Obama administration someone dared to get a little to close and drew blood. Bob Woodward, the acclaimed Washington Post reporter who along with Carl Bernstein brought down the Presidency of Richard Nixon dared to break ranks with the whipped mainstream media and spoke the truth. Woodward is the darling of the left and well-liked by the right, known for being a straightforward journalist. He has a stellar reputation and much journalistic credibility.
However, just recently Woodward had the audacity to actually call out the President on his misleading of the American people over who was responsible for the sequester taking place. Obama, in his many speeches and photo ops continually blamed the House Republicans for demanding that these cuts take place. He failed to mention that back in 2011 during the debt ceiling debate, it was HIS idea to initiate sequester if a deal was not reached by March 1. The cuts were supposed to affect the military in such a draconian way that the Republicans would have to cave.
Right after the fiscal cliff debacle the spin from the White House went into motion over the upcoming sequester. Again and again the lies were repeated by Obama and his minions until…uh oh, here comes Woodward with the truth. He made it clear that his White House sources confirmed it was all Obamas idea for sequester and he should take full responsibility for it. He said that Obama was “moving the goal posts”.
All at once the gauntlet was thrown down and the duel between the White House and Woodward began. At first it was back and forth sniping. Obama thinking his buddies in the media would discredit Woodward and it would be a non-story. He didn’t take into consideration however, that most of these Obama worshipers grew up idolizing Bob Woodward. Most of them would credit him with inspiring them into the world of journalism.
Now the media was caught between a rock and a hard place. Whose side do they take, or do they even cover the story at all? That’s when Woodward got a little to close and drew blood. When he made the statement about the President’s decision not to deploy an aircraft carrier as bordering on “madness”, that was a game changer. The underlying tone of Woodward’s words was unmistakable. He was obviously equating Obama with Richard Nixon and explaining the “madness” as both of them being more concerned about themselves than the country. He might not have put Obama and Nixon in the same sentence, but you can read between the lines.
The duel continued and now the Obama team went on the offensive. An email was sent to Woodward from a senior government official who we all now know to be Gene Sperling. The email was interpreted by Woodward to be a threat since it stated that he, Woodward, would “regret doing this” Woodward took it as a warning that he should shut up about this subject and not do his job as a journalist.
That started another firestorm. Now the White House advanced on Woodward with David Plouffe coming out and saying that he was “like an aging baseball star unable to hit today’s pitchers”. That was the beginning of the character assassination of Woodward. Blogs started saying that he was “old” and “out of the loop”. They basically said that he was not to be trusted as a journalist.
I doubt very seriously if the media will side with Woodward. They know this Obama White House and they know that “access is everything”. If they get shut out because they dare to side with the truth or don’t parrot the stories that the White House peddles, they lose everything. So they figure it’s better to throw one reporter under the bus; too bad it’s Bob Woodward, but that’s the breaks.
Sadly, it’s more important for them to worship at the altar of Obama than to stand by one of their own who speaks the truth.
