The False Premise of Security
Seeking to address the gun violence from the Newtown massacre, the president assembled various specialist groups for advice. This was a most pressing issue while still fresh in the minds of Americans as a way to potentially grab our guns and abolish that pesky 2nd amendment. A myriad of proposals were put forth.
The proposals came from a group of specialists examining how a young man could walk into a GUN-FREE ZONE and start shooting the most innocent our children. Apparently the shooter wasn’t aware of the gun free zone rule, or maybe he couldn’t read the sign or missed the memo…
Violence is and always has been a part of society. It’s roots lie in evil and its depth has no bounds. What makes a mind snap? Scientists, psychologists, socialists, and clergy can only guess at the wiring in the human brain/psyche. The troubled 20-year-old Adam Lanza suffered mental illness and was purportedly off his medication. Deluded and angry, he set a course of murder starting with his mother and finishing with 20 children and six adults. Police searched the Lanza home yielding few clues in that the computer hard drives were destroyed and cell phone rarely used. One thing remains that Americans are searching for: Answers as to why and how this tragedy occurred, whether by gun, knife, fist or hundreds other ways that a person intent on injury can do harm.
The Newtown massacre was a national tragedy but that is exactly what it is–a tragedy caused by a troubled man who put his thoughts into actions. So what is the answer to mass killings? I propose looking into a few questions first. What caused this tragedy? What factors in society led to this? Where has America failed its youth? The breakdown of the family unit is a contributing factor along with moral decay, the absence of God and a cultural decline.
This past month the outcry has been sounding from both the pro-Second Amendment groups and the pro-gun control groups. Everyone with a voice has been chiming in their two cents. The good news is that despite the tweets and twitters from gun control advocates, the NRA, state governors, congressman and sheriffs have (so far) held dearly in never relinquishing one iota of our right to bear arms.
However, now that the president has signed his 27 executive actions to “protect” our children from those “horrible guns”, Congress must act; if not, wipe away your tears, sweet patriot, for you trade freedom for the false premise of safety.
Meanwhile, for all the people who believe that “government is the answer” and that Congress and the president have your best interest at heart, you might want to talk to the families of border patrol agent Brian Terry, Seal Team Six or Ambassador Stevens how they feel about it…
