Anti-Media Bias Group to Protest Al Gore and CNN Next Week

Rage Against the MediaOn February 11, anti-media bias organization Rage Against the Media is going to protest Al Gore’s lecture at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills.

The RATM website says, “Join us…as we give Al ‘Al-Jazeera’ Gore the welcome he deserves! We’ll be at the Saban Theatre at 6PM with our signs, our costumes and our voices!”

Like most conservative Americans, RATM is unhappy with the January announcement that Gore had sold his far-left leaning Current TV network to the America-hating, Qatar-based, oil-funded, pro-Islam “news” outlet al Jazeera.

RATM wasn’t alone in their negative opinion as even liberal media members such as CBS’s David Letterman and Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart exposed Gore’s hypocrisy. The pushback was so strong against Gore’s sale to al Jazeera that even the left-leaning Politico created a video compiling the tough interviews the former Vice President faced on his recent book tour.

We asked RATM founder Karen Siegemund what would be the one question she would ask Al Gore if she had the opportunity to speak to him:

Al Gore justified the selling of his network to Al Jazeera for a lot of reasons, but one of the most puzzling was that they ‘tell truth to power.’  I would like to ask him specifically what he means by that, and what story do they tell that isn’t covered in the rest of American news media. As near as I can tell, our media has bought into the global warming/climate change/extreme weather hysteria, which as we know is utterly unfounded; our media sold the hopey-changey kumbaya “Arab Spring” narrative, conveniently ignoring things like rapes, the complicity of the Muslim Brotherhood in the riots and the history of the Muslim Brotherhood. Our media has told nearly the identical story line of Al Jazeera, selling the same narratives and ignoring the same stories that run counter to their narrative.

My question to Al Gore would be:  In what way does Al Jazeera cover the news differently from our own media? Wouldn’t “telling truth to power” be telling a different side from the one we already hear? In the name of truth and fairness, wouldn’t it have been better to sell your profitable station to someone who would, in fact, give a voice to a side not already heard?

Next, we asked Karen what she hopes to accomplish with these protests.

The protests serve 3 purposes, as I see it. Let me first say that once we realize that it is because of the media that the Democrats dominate the message, it becomes clear that we have to assert ourselves in this arena. We can’t just let them completely shape how the general public sees the world, and yet, that’s what we have done. We’ve let the media define who we are as conservatives, certainly, but we also have let them sell the liberal narrative almost with impunity. And we have to make sure this stops. We have to make sure that the American people at least hear rational discussion on the issues, that they see that there is, in fact, a whole set of facts, truths, stories, that are being withheld from them deliberately by the media, JUST SO THAT the liberal agenda can be pursued unchallenged.
So what do we hope to accomplish? First, we need to let the media know that we are on to them, and that they no longer have this unquestioned monopoly on the news. We are watching, and we know the real story, or the other side of the story. Take the fiscal cliff. The media is screaming about how shocking this is, when we conservatives have been screaming for over three years about how Harry Reid has not allowed the Senate to bring a budget to the floor. So we let the media know that there is another side, and that we are disgusted at them for lying to us so flagrantly, and with such disrespect for the American people.

But all that can be done in letters to the editor and so on, and has been for years. What the protests add to this is that we are out there, we are visible, and it’s not as easy to dismiss us if we are loud, if we show up in huge numbers, and if, fundamentally, what we say is the truth. They see that we are serious, we are angry, and we aren’t going away. But most importantly, what we are doing by being out on the streets is telling passers-by: YOU ARE BEING LIED TO! The media that you think you can trust has been lying to you. Look at the economy –look at gas prices – look at housing prices, the equity in your home. Look at the unemployment. These are all because of the policies that the media advocated on behalf of the president. Every single one. The media chose to hide the reality, and we are all paying for it. That is what we do at these protests. There are plenty of people who go home after a long day at work and watch the news, feeling they’re doing the right thing, and are now knowledgeable about what’s going on. But they are being lied to. By being out there, we are telling people that the media has done all of us a real disservice by being advocates instead of journalists, and we are all paying the price, whatever our political leanings.

And the third effect I think we have is that those of us who are frustrated with how ineffective we feel as individuals feel that in this arena, anyway, we can make a difference. After the election, when people were so demoralized, Rage Against the Media, with our protests and our flashmobs, was a very empowering vehicle. These protests are so important to get people out there to wake up, and to see the damage that the media has done; they are also an effective way to do something to fight back against one of the biggest obstacles that conservatives, that AMERICANS face, and that is the media’s complicity with one particular agenda, and each of us can make a huge difference.

The bigger the protests, the harder we are to ignore, and the more we make all Americans realize that we have been being duped. It is an outrage, and we have to stop it.

RATM will continue their peaceful protest against the liberal media on Saturday, February 16, in front of CNN Los Angeles.  They will be protesting CNN’s “bias, complicity, lies and propagandizing”.

Rage Against the Media describes themselves as “a group born out of anger at the mainstream media’s betrayal of all Americans.”

“Without an independent Fourth Estate, a free nation cannot survive, and indeed, we are now suffering the effects of our mainstream media’s advocacy of a political agenda rather than the legitimate reporting of all aspects of the political landscape,” RATM claims.

“It is time to hold the media accountable, and to demonstrate our anger at having been betrayed.”

Check out Rage Against the Media on Facebook and if you’re in Southern California, please make plans to attend the protests on February 11 and 16. It’s time for all of us to take a stand against the media bias that is largely controlled by the current administration and feeds lies, cover-ups, and propaganda to the uninformed masses.
