There is no way to sugar-coat it, our culture is in decline and circling the drain at a rapid pace. Everyday there is an assault of some sort on traditional values and beliefs, a constant mantra from the media that repeats like a skipping record. This is not something that has just suddenly emerged; oh no, this has been in the works for about 100 years.
Our country has had its brushes with decadence and moral decline. Just look at the Roaring 20’s with the rise of the “Flappers” who threw out the Victorian ways of the past century. Uninhibited drinking, smoking and sex were everywhere, behind speakeasy doors and underground drug dens. If you check out history books you can see the era of excess, easy money and a “devil may care” attitude.
Sound familiar? They say that history repeats itself and that seems to be true. In 1929, the great Depression hit with the fall of the stock market and the crash of the economy. It was a sober wake-up call to all Americans and suddenly the fun and games were over. The 30’s were a difficult time for people trying to survive, trying to feed their families or get a job. There was little money so the only thing they had was their family, their faith and their honor.
When the country hit bottom the American people woke up, gathered their strength, worked hard and made things right again. Films were full of images of success and heroes, and a little girl named Shirley Temple gave people optimism. Goodness and morality were applauded. Hard work was rewarded and people knew that their children would have a better life than what they had.
Fast forward to 2008. We crashed but we didn’t burn. We didn’t hit bottom with the economic collapse because the government stepped in and manipulated the fall. Yes, things were bad, but they weren’t bad enough for people to have a “come to Jesus” moment when they realized where we were heading morally, economically and culturally. It wasn’t quite bad enough to open their eyes.
Why is that? I think it is because over the years we have been like the proverbial frog in the pot of water, slowly boiling to death.
Little by little the progressives have infiltrated our culture like a cancer. It has taken generations but they have now taken over our schools and universities, the film and television industry, the print media and the hearts and minds of many of our children.
The moral and traditional among us are demonized on a daily basis as “old-fashioned”, bigoted or intolerant. We are looked at as racists, homophobes or as hating the environment if we even speak up in opposition to anything that the left has programmed into the minds of the populace.
Christmas has now become something to feel guilty about. Trees must be called “Holiday trees”, nativity scenes must be taken down and even employees are cautioned to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”. When does this madness stop? How is it that a minority of brainwashing leftists have seized control of our culture in such a destructive way?
I think we have reached the tipping point in our society and we will either go over the edge into the abyss or we will take a stand and fight back. There are no boundaries anymore. Anything and everything can be done or seen on television, in films or in music. As long as there is money to be made you can find someone to humiliate or degrade themselves.
There is no shame anymore. Just a few decades ago it was a scandal to be an unwed mother or a hopeless drug addict. Now it is celebrated. Celebrities are gracing the covers of magazines with their new babies with no father in sight. Drug use is nothing anymore, just go to a doctor having a bad day and I guarantee you the answer will be a prescription for Prozac or Zoloft. Or you can get your Marijuana legally in a few states.
We know the end is near when the kids from the “Jersey Shore” and “Honey Boo-Boo” are elevated to celebrity status. They make millions of dollars for doing nothing except being a train wreck.
I don’t have an answer as to where this all ends. Right now it seems to be spiraling downward with success and hard work being demonized and values and morals being sent to the trash heap.
Maybe this is like the 1920’s and we will crash and burn when the out of control deficit bubble finally bursts. Maybe then our eyes will open and we can rise up from the ashes.
If not, how long will it be before we have “Pay Per View” executions????
