I Believe I Can Change: Moving Forward After 4 Years

I’m getting back to life now. I’m going to do it by golly, and consider this my public announcement. For the past four years, I have been completely obsessed with saving our country and now that November 6 has come and gone, I feel like this country’s ship has sailed. Of course, I’m only talking about the effect of having President Obama as President. There will be other huge decisions down the line, but no political figure in my opinion, has ever had the impact to “fundamentally change” our nation. He told us he would do this. He warned us. I’ve been pre-occupied with those changes since he took the oath of office and signed his first executive order. But life has to move “forward”. I put my plans on hold and now I must re-prioritize. Really.
This must be what addicts feel like when they make that decision to kick a habit. Can I go “cold turkey”? The thought makes me shake a little. My excuses are laid out. There is an upcoming luncheon with my Republican Club and a Christmas dinner…but that’s it! I pre-planned and stepped down as an officer for 2013. The regret is already seeping in but I won’t share that with my friends.
Each morning, afternoon, and evening, instead of watching news on TV, I got up-to-the minute reports from Twitter to see what was really happening in the world of Politics. I poured through feeds, and read the truth while my blood pressure rose. There were endless stories filled with the heartbreaking news of job losses, the tanking economy, tragedies, flood victims, Navy Seals dead, Benghazi, and so much more.
Perhaps what I found increasingly most disturbing was the news of how our Constitution was ignored, mocked, trampled, disparaged, and threatened. What the drive-by media doesn’t share with folks like my dad is that President Obama is making deals with the devil – the UN, which has NO place in our country. Our Constitution, our Declaration of Independence and the UN are polar opposites! The President considers himself to be a global leader however, and not a leader of our nation. Therefore, these Founding Documents are not precious to him. He can pay lip service to our Declaration of Independence and Constitution, but his actions speak much louder and thunderous than any words. His actions are what drove millions of other previously inactive Americans like myself to the Tea Party movement.
Speaking of the Tea Party, Tom Brokaw called it an “insurgency”. When did Brokaw see civil disobedience during a Tea Party event? When was there even a piece of trash left behind after an event? Since when are patriotic Americans who gather to sing songs about America, hear people speak about why they love their country, who celebrate our Founding Principles and wave the American Flag – an insurrection?
I’ve organized, attended, and been involved with my “fair share” of Tea Parties over the past four years. The Tea Party, in my opinion, is the best thing to come out of the Obama Presidency. He is responsible for waking me up out of my political coma. Obama woke up millions of Americans that were taking what we had in these United States for granted. I pray that the Tea Party continues to hold each and every politician accountable, on both sides of the aisle. I detest corruption.
Now what? Do I give up on our country? Oh no! I said I was going to re-prioritize. For two years, I’ve put a huge project on hold. This has been weighing so heavily on me. The time has come to focus all of my attention on something that I know will be rewarded…a project that celebrates God, Country, and our wonderful Military.
Maybe you find yourself in a similar situation. You feel it’s time to move on from a situation or something you’ve been doing. I don’t truly know if I can change gears cold turkey. What I do know is that if we can do something positive with passion to make a difference in the lives of others, then every effort we make is worthwhile. It’s a new dawn and a new day…and I’m feeling good!
