5 Reasons to Be Thankful for Obama This Thanksgiving

1.  He is our first black President. As divisive and disappointing as his Presidency has been to many of us, his election is a symbol of just how incredibly far we’ve come as a nation. From Jim Crow to Barack Obama in less than 60 years is a testament to the American spirit and a wonderful reason to be thankful.

2.  With 73% of black American children being born to single-parent households, the foundations that have always signaled a more successful future have crumbled in black communities. Missing fathers have had an enormous impact of crime, confidence and economics. President Obama is the father of two young girls. He presents a wonderful example of family and fatherhood to a community of broken families.

3.  He has engaged more minorities in the political process – more specifically in urban centers. For too long people in those communities have viewed politics as something that happens TO them as opposed to BECAUSE of them. Thanks to Obama more minorities than ever are curious about the political process. Regardless of their voting preferences, this represents an enormous opportunity for both parties to articulate their messages to hungry hearts and win supporters.

4.  His (and his party’s) stated solutions to our national woes represent an opportunity for Republicans and conservatives to contrast their beliefs and platforms and articulate the value of the constitution and individual rights.

5.  He will only be President for four more years!
