Al Sharpton to Poor People: “Want a Free Turkey? Bring Your Photo ID!”

Next month in Augusta, Georgia the annual James Brown Turkey Giveaway takes place and provides a free turkey to needy families in the area. Registration for this event started October 2nd and there is expected to be a record turnout once again due to the sagging economy. James Brown was certainly a philanthropic who gave back to the area he considered home. After his death his family took over the events their father championed and alongside the family will once again be long time Brown family friend Rev. Al Sharpton.
Now as many of you know Al Sharpton along with the NAACP, DOJ and most members of the Congressional Black Caucus has been actively involved in the rally to end the requirement for a picture ID to be used to vote. Sharpton has called the issue of voter ID a crisis for civil rights and considers it a tactic being used by the Republican party to suppress the vote of minorities despite the fact that 70% (seventy percent) of the country feel the voter ID laws are not discriminatory. We’ve seen the lap-dog media like MSNBC use the “suppression” talking points for weeks now touting the Republicans want to take the country back to the Jim Crow days and yet they forget a very important fact that in the states that required the new laws requiring photo ID actually saw an increase in turnout in the minority community, not a decrease.
There is an interesting point to note about Al Sharpton and his involvement in the James Brown Turkey Giveaway that he doesn’t want the American people to know about. You see, before you are able to reach the table where he and the Brown family stand to pass out these turkeys, you must first provide two things during registration: 1) Photo ID 2) Current utility bill. Yes America! Al Sharpton requires you show a photo ID before he hands you a turkey! Oh the horror! Oh the suppression! Do you know the reason for the change in the program requirements involved? You guessed it! Fraud! The same requirements for the turkey giveaway are also for the Brown Toy Giveaway in December. Sharpton is also a part of that event as he likes to get his picture taken often!
So, it begs to question Sharpton how he can be part of an event twice a year that requires registration with a photo ID (state issued) and not consider that an issue but if states are requiring the same for voting, then somehow that is nothing more than a racist plan to suppress voters. Where is the logic here? If there is such a great concern or evidence of voter suppression, then why did the DOJ and Eric Holder refuse to press charges against the Black Panthers for voter suppression tactics used in Philadelphia in 2008? Why didn’t the DOJ go after ACORN who was proven to be involved in voter fraud during the same 2008 elections?
I think the answer is pretty clear and pretty damning. Selective outrage written in this article is simply based on the color of one’s skin and not facts. For those of us who know our history and are involved in what is going on today in politics realize that this issue for Sharpton, Holder, and the CBC is nothing more than playing the race card and a failed attempt to instill fear and racial division to win an election. The truth hurts, and Sharpton wishes that I didn’t once call Augusta, Ga. my home town.
