Does the ACLU Defend the Constitution?
Does the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defend the Constitution of the United States? As I once heard someone say, “Does the fox guard the hen house?”
`The ACLU says in their Briefing Paper, Number 1, “The mission of the ACLU is to assure that the Bill of Rights—amendments to the Constitution that guard against warranted governmental control—are preserved for each new generation. To understand the ACLU’s purpose, it is important to distinguish between the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Constitution itself, whose bicentennial we celebrated in 1987, authorizes the government to act. The Bill of Rights limits that authority.” Their brief goes on to explain what rights are guaranteed in the Bill of Rights: 1) First Amendment rights; 2) Equal protection of the law; 3) Due process of law; 4) The right to privacy and 5) Expanding those protections.
The founder of the ACLU, Roger Baldwin, got it wrong from the very beginning when he said, “So long as we have enough people in this country willing to fight for their rights, we’ll be called a democracy.”
Democracy? Hmm, I thought we were a Republic.
There are many sources to define a Republic and a Democracy. The group, Citizens for Constitutional Government, defines a Republic and a Democracy as follows: “A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution). A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority (mob rule). A Republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good).”
Does the last part of the above sentence sound familiar? “…while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs….” Think about the word, group. Expand that and think about community and even further with the word, commune. Does this sound like Communism?
In addition to Roger Baldwin defining us as a democracy, today we have some leaders who are trying to do the same thing. Perhaps they might think that if they keep telling us we’re a democracy, that we’ll believe it.
Baldwin said, “I am for Socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek social ownership of property…Communism is the goal.”
Wow! There we have it. “…Communism is the goal.” In fact, the ACLU was founded in 1917 as the Bureau of Conscientious Objectors. In 1918, the Bureau was raided by the FBI for suspicion of having subversive literature. In November of 1918, Baldwin began serving a one year prison term for sedition. When he was released in 1920, he renamed the Bureau the American Civil Liberties Union.
Most of us know that the ACLU is a highly politicized progressive organization. Their goal is to reform American society according to the world of liberalism even though they advertise themselves as neither being Conservative, Liberal, Democrat nor Republican. That is true—they are Marxists. They want us to believe that they are devoted to protecting the civil liberties of all Americans, but let’s look at the fox guarding the hen house.
The ACLU supports abortion, flag desecration (which they define as free speech), homosexual and transgender rights (including adoption rights for gay couples) and prisoner’s rights. They believe that impediments to voting should not be allowed (voter I.D.s). They oppose the death penalty and prayer in schools.
Their religious bigotry is observed from their past. They have sought to eliminate nativity scenes, crosses and other Christian symbols from public property; have sought to prohibit voluntary Bible reading in public schools and have sought to purge the words under God from the Pledge of Allegiance.
The First Amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
The ACLU would have us believe that the term separation of church and state is in the First Amendment, ignoring the fact that the actual subject of the First Amendment is about Congress and what Congress may or may not do as a Federal entity. Congress’ intent of the First Amendment was not to form a secular government forbidding religious entanglements; the First Amendment addressing speech and religion was to protect those entities from the heavy hand of government and not the other way around.
The ACLU is at the forefront of revisionist history coming against the Constitution, not defending it.
