Why Actor Christopher Mitchum is Running for Congress

I believe that our country is in every bit as much as fight for survival as we were in 1776,” Christopher says, “except we are now using ballots instead of bullets and working within our Constitution – for which Obama has no respect.

I met with Christopher Mitchum (yes, his father was Robert) on the day he was to find out whether or not he would get an endorsement from the California Republican Party.  He is running for Congress in one of the most liberal areas of California—Santa Barbara County.

When I asked why he was running, without hesitating he quoted President Reagan’s entire ‘rendezvous with destiny’ speech.

“I entered this fight when I watched, with disbelief, Socialist Pelosi herd her flock of moderate Democrats to spit in the face of the overwhelming will of the American people, turn their backs on our Constitution…and shove Obamacare down our throats,” he said.

For me, Christopher Mitchum represents the only type of politician any of us should vote for in America these days.  He never wanted to be a politician—instead he felt compelled to do so for his country.

“How dare they,” Chris said, referring to the socialistic practices we’ve all been seeing since 2008.

“I saw a totalitarian move to take over our country and turn it into a socialist state and said, ‘Not on my watch.’ And I decided to run for office. Why? Because I must be able have my children and my grandchildren say, ‘He did all that could be done.’”

“Every citizen who still has the heart of an American beating deep within their chest must stand up, join in, do all that they can do to take this great country back! American is the beacon of, we hold high the torch of, Liberty and Hope for the entire world to see.”

Christopher Mitchum describes himself as a “Constitutional Republican of the ilk of Goldwater and Reagan – both family friends.”  (WHO can say that??)

I asked him what his platform would be.

I hold to be self-evident that we are a country of lower taxes, smaller government–10thamendment–strong boarders, strong military, free market and personal responsibility. That is how we were founded, that is the foundation on which we grew great, and, despite the argument that, “Since we’re so rich, we who have should help those who don’t,’ we are seeing that that policy is making us a part of ‘those who don’t.”

When asked what he plans to do if elected, he said “I expect that I will go to Washington, do what I say I will do, and make enemies. Probably I’ll be voted out after one term because I have no interest in ‘bringing home the bacon.’ I only care about saving my country … and, in doing so, giving Hope to the world.”
