Stay Calm and Stop Common Core & Data Collection!
A teacher friend of mine just had an interesting conversation with her boss, the local school district Assistant Superintendent. He informed her that he “disagreed” with her, and he was in favor of Common Core. She pursued the conversation a bit and commented, “I bet we agree on more than you think.” At that time, she gave him just a little bit of information regarding who wrote the standards, the fact that they were copyrighted in D.C., and referred to a couple of articles. She also told him about Arne Duncan gutting the FERPA laws without Congressional approval. She got his attention! She was on her way to his office to pick up some papers when this conversation occurred. When she walked into his office, he was looking up some articles by Diane Ravitch, per her suggestion. He was aghast at the new knowledge. I am convinced he is on his way to researching the facts, and we ALWAYS win when folks find the facts. This is a very large school district that will have some new views on Common Core. Chipping away…
Those educators who insist they are in favor of Common Core are lacking good information. Stay calm and give them the links to explore. Family Research Council has a great forum coming up! Who do you know that needs to listen?
