Dave Brat, Republican candidate for Virginia’s 7th District seat in Congress, held his first press conference since his victory over Eric Cantor last Tuesday. His message is to unify the Republican Party and move forward with six principles that achieved his primary win.

After thanking the volunteers and friends who helped him on his primary campaign, Brat announced those who have shown their continued support for this campaign in moving forward. “What we are seeing is that all staffers, volunteers, and supporters are coming from all corners of the Republican Party and beyond. We’ve got long time Republicans of all stripes. We have Tea Partiers, Independents, and Libertarians on board. And this is precisely what this campaign is all about from the beginning. We are unifying all of these different groups under one common set of principles.”

He then briefly laid out the Virginia Republican Creed that he outlined during his primary campaign.

  • A commitment to the free market system.
  • Equal rights and equal justice for every single person in this nation under law.
  • Fiscal responsibility for all levels of Government
  • Adherence to the Constitution of the United States of America to protect our liberty.
  • We believe peace is best preserved through a strong national defense.
  • We believe faith in God, as recognized by our Founders, is absolutely essential to the moral fiber of this greatest nation on the Earth.

Dave Brat wants to unify the different parts of the Republican Party with these six principles in his district and in the state of Virginia. “These are not just Republican principles, these are mainstream American principles we all believe in”, he stated. As an economist, Brat’s emphasis will be on the economic principles he has laid out. Virginia, like much of the nation, is still dealing with loss of jobs, increased healthcare costs due to Obamacare, as well as the nation’s debt crisis that effects all Americans.

On the campaign trail, Brat heard from citizens regarding the out of control spending that has landed our nation’s economy “in the ditch”. But the people of his district have also spoken loud and clear that they want term limits and that “crony capitalism ends today”.

Congressional candidate Dave Brat will head out on the campaign trail trumpeting his message of economic prosperity and these six Republican principles to all corners of his district. He was able to pull out a very surprising victory against House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that took the political world by surprise. Now, the state of Virginia and the rest of the country will watch and wait. Will Dave Brat pull out another victory in November and truly unify a Republican Party that lately, seems torn apart at the seams?
