It was standing room only at CPAC, The Conservative Political Action Conference, on Thursday as conservative radio host Mark Levin accepted the inaugural Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award. Levin’s appearance at CPAC was notable as he emerged from his radio show ‘bunker’ for the ceremony.
The award was presented to Mark Levin by David Bossie, President, Citizens United, alongside Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon. Mark’s solid knowledge and understanding of the Constitution, his bold speaking on defending the Constitution and his commitment to First Amendment freedoms were expressed.
In humbly accepting the award, Levin’s words illustrated, in his famously direct style, the reason he was receiving this award. Levin stated, “What do you mean Mr. President when you say that if Congress doesn’t act then you will? If Congress doesn’t act and you do, that’s an impeachable offense. Haven’t you heard of separation of powers? Are you aware of Article I of the Constitution?” Mark went on to say, “What do you mean when you say you want to fundamentally transform America? Where does the Constitution grant you such power? Let me suggest, if you love your country, you don’t want to fundamentally transform it.”
The 2nd Annual Tribute to the late Andrew Breitbart followed the award presentation and a short video revealed moments from the happy warrior’s inspiring life, fighting for America. The room was full of many people touched by Andrew’s fearless life and work.
