In a February 25 debate between United States congressional candidates for Florida District 13, Democrat, and former gubernatorial candidate, Alex Sink, had this to say about illegal immigrants and immigration reform,
“Immigration reform is important in our country. We have a lot of employers over on the beaches that rely upon workers and especially in this high-growth environment, where are you going to get people to work to clean our hotel rooms or do our landscaping? We don’t need to put those employers in a position of hiring undocumented and illegal workers.”
Wow. Can you imagine what would happen to a Republican candidate if he or she had made such a glib and derogatory statement regarding America’s immigrants? They would automatically be labeled a racist. Of course, as of yet we haven’t heard so much as a “boo” from the liberal media. Most likely because this is such an important race for Democrats. If won, this seat will be a gain in the House of Representatives because it was vacated by the long serving Republican Bill Young who died late last year. Also, according to the latest poll, Sink is leading Republican David Jolly by as much as 9 points.
Once again, if a Republican had made such a statement – there would be calls for him/her to resign from the race because they would have been labeled a racist, but since Alex Sink is a Democrat I highly doubt this will do little more than be an “oops” moment for her campaign.
Double standards; aren’t they grand?
