No matter how members of the White House Administration attempted to portray the armed assault on the Benghazi diplomatic compound on September 11, 2012 as a spontaneous protest over a YouTube video then, and members of the press try to renew the debunked story now, as always happens with a lie, the truth will out. At some point the facts of the matter suffocate the lie that is attempted to cover them, it is just unfortunate and a very sad comment on those who were given the duty and honor of protecting the United States of America and their cohorts in what was at one time in this country a free press that it is taking so long in this particular case.
On January 8th, CBS’ Sheryl Attkisson revealed that one of the many American survivors of that armed assault, a State Department diplomatic security agent who wishes to keep his identity from public disclosure, likely due to the pressure the State Department is burdening those survivors with, including being required to sign non-disclosure agreements, and placing on these people. Access to them by Members of Congress in their Constitutionally mandated oversight role is being denied by the State Department still, over sixteen months after the event, under the guise it will somehow compromise the “on-going criminal investigation.” According to Ms. Attkisson, this diplomatic security agent met last November with Senators Lindsey Graham (R – SC), Bob Corker (R – TN), and Bob Menendez (D – NJ) and disclosed to them the fact that the lease on that Benghazi compound had been renewed in June of 2012 for another year by the State Department. This information is important as one of the conclusions drawn by the Clinton-appointed Accountability Review Board to complete an internal investigation was that the security deficiencies the night of the assault were due to the compound being considered a “temporary residential facility” thus exempting it from the office facility standards mandated by Federal law. Why was the compound determined “temporary” when that was clearly not the case and why was the existence of the lease renewal withheld by State from Congress in their requests for all pertinent information and documents pertaining to that compound?
On the heels of this disclosure from Ms. Attkisson, we have a report from James Rosen of FOX News that the President of the United States was correctly informed by his top Defense officials within minutes of commencement of the assault on the Benghazi compound that the event was a “terrorist attack” according to declassified documents). After being briefed by General Carter Ham, then head of AFRICOM, then-Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff headed to the White House for a 30-minute meeting with Barack Obama during which they informed him of the armed assault on the compound and the fact that the whereabouts of Ambassador Christopher Stevens was unknown, and that his diplomatic aide Sean Smith was unaccounted for as well.
In other words, no spontaneous protest. Neither official made reference to any video, you tube or otherwise, as even the possible instigation for the attack. So then why did President Obama use this as the reason for the attack when he addressed the nation much later, after the fact? Why did he and then Secretary-of-State Hillary Clinton repeat the fraudulent excuse over and over again in public comment, even in front of the flag-draped caskets holding the remains of the four Americans lost and their loved ones present for the home-coming ceremony to honor them, when they knew this was not at all the case? This is an important question to have answered by both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, under oath this time, why did both promote the lie when they knew the armed assault was a terrorist attack from the onset?
Several more important questions still remain unasked of and unanswered by Barack Obama. As Commander-in-Chief, why did he not order immediate defense of that diplomatic compound in which American lives, including his personal representative to the area, were in mortal danger? Why did he instead, according to military personnel, order that assets stand down? At what point in that 30-minute meeting with Panetta and Dempsey did the president give that order which was then passed along the chain-of-command? And then after doing so, after failing to defend sovereign U.S. soil and American lives, where did the president go? What was so important it had to be attended to rather than he stay in the Oval Office at the very least, better he should go to the Situation Room with the other Admin officials who were monitoring the attack in real time?
Just as the facts about the president and others knowing all along the armed assault was a terrorist attack and not a protest that got out of control are now publicly disclosed, so to will be the answers to those questions and all the others that remain unresolved over that terrible night in Benghazi, Libya.
